Um. According to this site, there are 77 counties that DO NOTgo to Daylight Saving Time. Ten counties on the extreme northwest and extreme southwest are in Central Time, and switch to Central Daylight Time with Illinois.
Five counties on the extreme southeast follow Eastern Time, and switch to Eastern Daylight Time with Ohio.
It’s not that confusing, dude.
And Tech Companies having to make “software changes”? Like what, clicking the “do not allow for Daylight Saving” on their schedulers? Seriously, I work with Indiana-based tech companies, and none of them seem to have a problem.
This year, I love DST. We don’t switch, and DogDad has taken to watching Speed Racer in the mornings. I hate Speed Racer. (He knows this. It’s not a HUGE deal because I leave for work 10 minutes after it starts. But there’s no worse torture than a stupid theme song from a really stupid show going through your head all damn day.) Only now it’s not on when we’re up, since it’s being shown an hour earlier. Ah, bliss…

Yeah, that’s what I meant, sorry for the confusion. Though this site says 76 counties.
I never said it was. I did say that others have claimed so.
Here on the Ohio/Indiana border, I can’t decide if I hate DST or if I hate Indiana for not implementing it. Prime-time TV (local channels) starts at 9 pm now, and I have to stay up till midnight if I want to catch the late news. DH has a Red Green fixation, and now will have to stay up till 12:30 to catch it.
Unfortunately, Indiana local channels are the only ones we can get.
Thank you to all the Arizona dopers testifying that you don’t deal with DST! I’ve had more than one heated argument when I’ve mentioned Arizona doesn’t switch: “the whole country switches, dumbass, why the hell would one state not do it??”
Ah, sweet, sweet validation.
Ha! I wish!
Buffy is a sweetheart, but she’s more like an insect slayer. I have the feeling if she saw an actual mouse, she’d run and hide.
Yeah, yinz are right, they should be sleeping LATER. It’s when we switch BACK that they get messed up.
See, the time switch screwed up my logic! It IS evil, dammit!
Are you people kidding DST is awesome. It’s just like an extra hour of daylight just came out of no where. Sure an hour is lost the morning but I’m too groggy then to miss it.
Hrrumph. I feel like commiserating with don’t ask now, re post #12.
Daylight savings drives me absolutely nuts, too. I wasn’t able to sleep until 2 a.m. yesterday because I woke up really late, especially so with the time change. I’m exhausted.
But what really gets my goat about DST is Indiana time zones - I lived in Evansville, IN when I was a kid and half the state was on CST and the other was on EST. And the time zone cut through the middle half of the state - not north-south, no, because that might make some sort of sense - instead the time zone bisected the state west-east. So Evansville was on CST, the middle portion of the state was on EST and some of the northern portions of the state were on CST.
Yep, DST kept me awake till nearly two in the morning yesterday and this morning I woke up at about 2:30.
I’m going to be able to use the bags under my eyes to carry groceries.
The menu on my VCR doesn’t work, so that means I’ll have to add an hour to the time for 6 months, or just look at a blinking 12:00 forever!!! DAMN!!!
Did it used to be different than what it currently is?
Why not just split the difference? Set our clocks back 30 minutes this fall, then call it good. No more DST. No more changing the time. That one half hour back will be the last time change for all time.
What a bunch of pathetic, whinging losers. I have no sympathy.
Get over yourselves. It’s only one hour. I suppose you wimps avoid long car trips east or west?
You do all realize that there is a major savings of energy use associated with the switch to DST during the summer? And do you realize that if DST were kept through the year, the sun wouldn’t rise until almost 10am in northern areas during the winter?
P.S. I despise Arizona, and would never consider moving there for any reason. Stupid antagonism toward DST, and pompousness connected thereto, are even more reasons to hate Arizona, even though my sister lives there. Stupid Arizona. There are only two states I detest more.
Speaking of which, on this subect The Great Master has Spoken, and basically all of you who are opposed to DST are wrong.
