In your mind, is Daisy Duke blonde or brunette?

When someone says Daisy Duke, do you immediately picture a brunette a la Catherine Bach, or a blonde a la Jessica Simpson?

Feel free to debate which one is “right,” but I’m more interested in which one springs to mind more powerfully. (This is for a Halloween costume.)

There is only one Daisy Duke, and she’s a brunette.

I was young when the show first came on so there is only one Daisy Duke and she is a brunette. I would be confused and angry if a blonde showed up and tried to convince me she was the real Daisy.

Weird simulpost silenus but you are correct once again. This shouldn’t even be a question.

When I hear “Daisy Duke” I think Daisy Mae
EDITED TO ADD: I don’t have much of a TV habit, now or then.

Jessica Simpson isn’t Daisy Duke.

ETA: This should be a public poll, so the people who think she is can be identified for re-education.

She’s ginger! <3

It’s my mind, I can do what I want!

Really depends on who’s going to be viewing the costume. Those not old enough to drink likely will only know the blonde and if they’re the majority…

Bah…I made the same mistake, and voted "blonde in the poll. Daisy Duke is not blonde.

Denim.

Definitely brunette.

In my mind Daisy Duke is legs

Definitely brunette. And even if your costume is for a younger audience, did enough people even see that movie to make much of an impact?

More analogous to my own age group, to me Donna Douglas is Ellie Mae Clampett, not Erika Eleniak, even though *The Beverly Hillbillies *TV show premiered before I was born and the film came out when I was a young adult. One crappy movie does not an iconic character make.

In my mind she’s shaved. You don’t want any curlies poking out the sides.

Nah, she’s got that 70’s bush. And it’s all brunette, the way God intended.

When I think of Daisy Mae, I think brunette, because that’s who played her in my high school musical.

Brunette, of course. I couldn’t even understand the question until I remembered they made a bad movie adaptation a few years back, and even then I couldn’t remember which no-talent starlet they had cast.

Brunette. But as others have said it’s probably a matter of age. I never liked the show myself but it was on when I was in college and my roommate thought Catherine Bach was great so we had to watch it every week.

You know, I think this is it. I’m 29, and I’ve never seen a single episode of “Dukes of Hazzard” nor did I see the recent movie. I’ve always somehow been aware that there was a late '70s/early '80s sex symbol named Daisy Duke, that she was noted for her short jean shorts, and that she was somehow associated with the South. But honestly, I’ve never had a strong mental image of this person. The marketing for the 2005 movie probably had a greater effect on my consciousness than the original TV show did, and thus when asked, I immediately pictured a blonde. The abovementioned “Daisy Mae” problem might have also had some effect.

So I agree that people older than about 30 are probably imagining the “real” Daisy Duke from the 1979-1985 show, while people younger than about 30 might be more prone to imagine a vague amalgamation of Farrah Fawcett, Jessica Simpson, and Dolly Parton.

In any case, the point is probably academic anyway for two reasons:

  1. My costume is “Daisy Duke Nukem” and nobody’s going to buy a Duke Nukem who isn’t blond.
  2. My SO is supplying the wig, and the wig is blonde. So my options are pretty limited there.

Absolutely brunette. If you think she’s a blonde, you didn’t grow up in the '80s.
