I had posted a series of photos on imgur because the jack on my boat trailer was stuck and I posted a question on r\boating on reddit with a link to imgur. I had wanted to respond to a comment on imgur because I had actually solved the problem and I figured people might be interested in the solution. Imgur does not seem to let me comment even though my comment did not appear to violate any community standards. No vulgarity or anything.
Imgur talks about having some level of notoriety before you can comment. Does this mean you have to vote on a lot of images or you need some level of positive votes before you can comment. This strikes me as very odd.
In other words, my account is like 11 years old, but how do you get to the point where you can comment?
Is the post you are trying to comment on shared publicly or hidden? If it is hidden you cannot comment (nobody can). But you can change it from hidden to public, comment, then change it back to hidden if you want.
It’s not, though. A lot of comment systems restrict how much a new participant can post, simply because a new poster (with a throwaway account) can stir up a lot of trouble.
Several subreddits are this way, for instance. Several internet fora like this one can be, too. Here, a brand new guest can only post a very few times per day until their account is a few days old and their prior posts haven’t gotten them in trouble.
Thanks for the idea. I guess I can post a reply but it has to be really short. I mean this reply is probably already too long. You’d think you would be allowed to reply with a Twitter length comment.
ETA: I checked again and it appears that you are restricted to 140 characters. Unfortunately the stupid message board gives you a message that you are not allowed to post. They should just fucking say you’ve exceeded 140 characters and not give you a WRONG entirely inapplicable warning message.
