Actually, it sucked.
I’ve done my part and changed my avatar. Most recently it was you-know-who’s face with the word “Loser” stamped on it. But here on out I’m not foisting that asshole face on people.
What did?
The White House staff started moving the Bidens in right after the oath of office. They did have some time to clean as the trumps left earlier than usual and there were no ceremonies at the White House.
I am so glad we will have humour back at the top of government. Just the little quips, laughs, and even through the masks you could see the smiles at the capitol.
Biden has a great sense of humour and Harris has a joy of life. This is going to be sooooo very healing.
I agree that it was dull. Oh my God! What a relief to hear a boring speech. Gracious, upbeat, focused on ideals rather than policy, and blissfully dull.
I like the one you had prior - that is how I came to know your erudite and blunt posts. ![]()
Well, golly, thanks. But I wouldn’t want to be subjected to an uninvited Trump face, and could, in this new day, not subject others to it, either. Happy new day!
Bush is looking around and probably wondering, Geez, get here already Joe, my ass is freezing…
No, I meant the one you had prior to Loser’s face - the bearded and wizened face.
I missed the live swearing in since it was 10 minutes early, but have seen it.
Thank God this is over and a real human being is president.
Oh, Jorma. Hold on…
Pence is a competent politician when he has the opportunity to be.
Only in the context of the previous administration does “competent politician” come across as a compliment.
Having Bill Barr wipe the lectern after each speaker was a nice touch, too.
Perfect! Hats off to @czarcasm
We’ll see.
Al Roker’s hoping to entice people to speak with him by offering candy.
Interesting. Apparently at the laying of the wreath ceremony nobody actually lays a wreath. All they did was walk up and touch it.
I’d never watched that before and had been expecting them to pick it up and lean it against the tomb, or something.
– has the inauguration parade not started yet? First I couldn’t find it, and then PBS seemed to have put it up but it just says “waiting”. In which case I should go back to moving some firewood into the house and collecting the trash to be picked up early tomorrow morning. (Somehow, “taking out the trash” seems a highly applicable thing to do today; though I really should have done it during the morning.)
The PBS livestream from the Inauguration is still up, and is showing a large procession leaving Arlington now.
Well, when I was in the military, back around the time of the Battle of Hastings, the rule was that when you were marching in formation, and you passed someone in need of a salute, the person leading the formation saluted, but not the whole squad, or platoon, or brigade, or whatever.
It’s not always obvious where the different squads, platoons, brigades, etc. begin and end, and some are going to be led by officers, and some by sergeants. If a sergeant is leading a platoon, and his (or her) commanding officer is walking very nearby-- say, four platoons composing a company are one after another, and each one is being led by a sergeant, but the CO of the company is right there, representing the company, the CO will salute, and the sergeants don’t need to. But if the CO lags back, runs forward, gets called over by another CO for some reason, or is otherwise occupied, then each sergeant will salute.
DH was in Iraq, and salutes of officers were referred to as “sniper checks.” People were discouraged from saluting any time there was a danger of air surveillance. It’s possible that soldiers were instructed to acknowledge the president with a head nod rather than a salute on this occasion, or maybe it is standard practice now.
OK, thanks, I’m gonna go do some other stuff. That’ll probably make the parade start right up; but I expect it’ll all be available later on youtube if I do miss some of it. Or probably the pbs livestream can be backed up to the beginning.
