If they do it again, I will. We seem to be done for now. Fingers crossed…
I heard several random booms and pops tonight, too. Guess folks have quite a stash to work through.
My appetite is much better lately, thank you very much, which leads me to the minor complaint I wish to submit: what goes in must go out, and I didn’t used to have to budget much - or really any - of my free time for pooping now I feel like, “What, again? I just pooped, like, yesterday morning!”
How on earth do you normal people get anything done?
I have been lurking for years, but thought I should sign up to reply to a thread for very good reasons at the time. By the time I got signed up and ready to reply, I forgot which thread it was. I also forgot what I was going to say anyhow, so I guess it doesn’t matter.
Being old with no social interaction kinda sucks. Due to living in the stupid state of Arizona, my spouse and I have been staying home. He has been losing more short term memories than me, but he’s older and who could blame either of us? When everything is the same everyday, its hard to remember the difference.
My favorite Mythbuster, Grant Imahara, died today.
This (expletive) year! There is not enough profanity in the English language, nor do I possess enough middle fingers, to adequately express my opinion of 2020.
Saw that news first thing this morning, and cried into my tea. I don’t cry over the deaths of celebrities as a rule (Anthony Bourdain is the only other one) , but as a Mythbusters addict I couldn’t help it. He was brilliant, funny, kind.
JFC, 2020. Enough already.
He was so young! I wonder if it was COVID.
Local TV news said it was an aneurysm, but I’m not sure what/who their source is for that.
I’m currently listening to one co-worker explaining to another how the coin shortage is a sign of the impending cashless economy, which leads to the one world government and the end times.
FUCKING HELL. I really loved him, he was so creative and smart.
Ah, that explains the post one of my Trumpy friends shared on Facebook, ranting about how the cashless society is just another step on the government and big banks controlling your life (like that don’t already).
Apparently this is the current worry point for the paranoid right.
Ok, so the Ruku tv decides to not work…ok…I do all the troubleshooting. It’s just dead. Good thing we didn’t pay much for it. Rebought another one!
Youngest son is a recent California law school graduate.
California cancelled their in-person bar exam (I think for July), and planned an online one for September. Except apparently they don’t know if they can that off, so maybe it will be October. And everyone assumes that since they are floating the October date already that that is the most likely outcome.
And bar prep courses are generally designed to peak the students right when the bar is scheduled, so moving things around by 30 days is a big deal.
There is a petition from the various CA law schools for something called ‘diploma privilege’, where if you graduated from an CA Bar accredited school, you get in (probably on an interim basis with expanded continuing ed requirements (or that is how other states have handled it)).
The boy says that the rumor is the bar won’t go for that (there was an online forum where various deans spoke in favor of it, but apparently at least one of the board members charged with the decision was sleeping through large chunks of it), but with CA descending ever deeper into the pandemic, maybe they will change their minds.
As an added bonus, the assumed October date is the Monday after my oldest son’s wedding (assuming that happens) - adding scheduling stress to both the exam and the wedding planning.
That is indeed anxiety inducing! However, in the meantime, congrats on the impending marrying-off of one son & the impending lawyerification of another son.
Now, I’d like to register a complaint against the design of human sinuses, which drain properly when vertical but clog when horizontal, forcing some of us to choose between breathing and sleeping when both are system-critical requirements.
I’ll second that complaint.
Oh, an update (and anti-rant): the stereo installation went great! The heat wasn’t too bad, since I was able to place plenty of fans in the garage. The only surprise when I got everything disassembled was a pleasant one; the previous installer had punched/drilled a hole in a sub panel to accommodate the iPod cord, so I didn’t have to make any modifications when running the new USB cord. I even managed to place the microphone in a perfect spot on the first try. Even though it won’t display song information or allow track selection when playing from a Bluetooth source, it’s easy enough to accomplish these with voice commands. I wish I had done this upgrade years ago… On the other hand, I wouldn’t have picked this particular stereo at that time.
So I go to the Derm about this ugly red rash sure she’d tell me I’m precious with a new case of never seen it before rashitis. No its poison ivy she says now let’s get you under a gown and check your skin. But I’m not here for that I just need a tube of relief. Not having it, she beams at me and says I see precancerous lesions let’s biopsy it! Two slices later I’m out the door with an Rx scrip for steroidal creme and the promise of a follow up ( I can see it on her eyes let’s hope it’s skin cancer!)
Question: Can a law school grad take the bar exam in ANY state, or does it need to be taken in the state where the law degree was granted?
Welcome to the Dope as a participant, @JaneDoe42! Sorry about the memory loss. Sadly, it’s happening to all of us, some sooner than later. I’m getting very tired of walking into the garage only to stand there stupidly, saying to myself, “now, what was it again that I wanted to do?”
My BIL got his law degree in Iowa, but took the bar exam in Washington state.
AIUI, anywhere they want to work (my understanding is that there would be state specific questions but a lot of it is general law knowledge), but with the pandemic it is very hard to find seats in any state that was holding the bar exam. He tried to sign up in Oregon, Washington and Missouri and possibly others but didn’t make it any of them.
