September Mini-Rants (Can't Even Be Bothered)

…to come up with a “clever” thread title, that is.

Got a mini-rant, though. kaylsmom often cannot finish her dinner, whether I cooked it, or whether we got it from a restaurant. So, there’s often a box or two of leftover food in the fridge, and I often bring one with me to work, to have on my lunch break.

And thus it transpired last night. It didn’t appear that she was ever going to eat that chicken breast and waffle from Roscoe’s, so I grabbed the container out of the refrigerator, slid it into a grocery store bag and headed out. When I got to work, I put it into the communal fridge in the lunch room and went to clock in.

All evening I could practically hear that chicken and waffle calling my name. Finally, 0250 comes around, and I get to clock out for lunch. I get my lunch bag out og the fridge, and am about to stick it in the microwave, when I decide to give the food a loving gaze.

Inside the container is half of a chimichanga that I KNOW FOR A FACT she’s gonna want.

Sadly, I returned the leftovers to the refrigerator for ttransport home, and drove to Carl’s Jr. for a burger and a shake (which I had to wolf down in order to clock back in on time). Now I have heartburn.

Uh? Why not eat the chimichanga, and then buy another for your wife on your way home from work?

But it wouldn’t be the same chimichanga.

(Spellcheck doesn’t believe in chimichangas. It thinks I really mean “Michiganite.”)

You could’ve gotten a turkey burger and iced tea and saved yourself the heartburn… The Carl’s Jr. teriyaki turkey burger is pretty good, btw.

We’re coming up on pumpkin-EVERYTHING season. Ugh.

Like many other animal rescue groups in Houston, we are over full with lost pets. Food and water were becoming an issue which was shared through social media.

Rescue people in California got together and raised enough money to send us a semi-truck load of pet food, gallon jugs of water and kitty litter. It arrived this morning.

Its incredible and we are overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of the people who did this for the animals.

We are not so happy with the shipping company. The truck had to be unloaded right away. The only dry place to put the shipment was in the shelter. Which is full of animals.

We tried to convince the driver to wait 4 or 5 hours so we could arrange for volunteers to store it at their homes and he wouldn’t do it. We called the shipping company and tried to convince them to allow him to wait and they wouldn’t do it because they needed the truck back right away. (Money was offered in both negotiations, apparently not enough.)

We finally had to cover and push all of the cages and kennels together to have room to put the pallets inside.

We will handle this, we have people arriving already, but its a total PITA at the moment.

Do NOT visit Trader Joe’s between now and Thanksgiving. Trust me on this.

Thanks for all you do! Thoughts and prayers for the four-legged survivors in Texas. And thanks for not getting graphic about euthanizing kittens (I had to stop opening last month’s mini-rants, as it ended up being 3/4 stuff that I just couldn’t take*).
Hey, feel free to start a “Bad (things that happen to) Kitties” thread.
*My family has four generations of medical people, who don’t think twice about having a detailed discussion of gangrenous limbs at the dinner table… and don’t notice how many leftovers we have on those nights. :-}

Ugh, it’s way-to-damn-hot here and so hazy from all the smoke I can’t even see the hills. I realize “burning” in California’ default setting for late summer and fall, but can we limit to maybe one or two at a time, please?

Presumably the shipping was paid for by the donors, right? I would name and shame them on social media to let your donors know what happened. Normally I wouldn’t suggest such a thing. But in this case when everyone is pulling together to help the storm victims its blatantly selfish of this shipping company to think only of themselves.

Thank you digs, but my group and I are just a small part of the rescue efforts. There are amazing things happening by people here every day. Everyone deserves praise, not just the one posting about it.

One of the reasons I am involved with a rather small rescue group is because I totally hate the politics that happens with larger groups.

Sadly, the politics are happening now. This is a disaster and supply lines are broken. All efforts possible are being made to restore services.

We have enough stuff to feed our rescues for a year which was shipped to us by people who wanted to help. I feel that while we should keep back a weeks worth of supplies, we should give the rest to other rescue groups or anyone who asks for a bag of dog food or a few gallons of water.

There are others who feel that we would offend the donors by giving it away.

I’m pretty sure that they aren’t thinking clearly, so have already helped load a truck load of dog food to another rescue.

I’m a volunteer, they can’t fire me. I hope I don’t have to quit over this.

the truck driver may have been on a tight schedule in order to make it home or to the next appointment that could not be missed. they most likely didn’t charge or charged a discounted rate in order to help out.

Too late to delete my complaint about the politics, but they are over.

A man waked up and asked if he could have some kitty litter because his cat was peeing on shredded mail, so I took him to the naysayers so they could say NO. The way their attitude changed with his request was amazing.

Our official position now is that we will hold back enough to care for what we have for a week. After that is put back, anyone who asks for help will be helped.

Oh, while I don’t know who it was who added the 50 gallons of bleach and the thousands of water purification tablets to the shipment, may I say thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I almost cried when I saw the bleach. Now we can clean!

Oh, that is brilliant. Diabolically so.

Found the whole thing laborious, did you?

I kinda like the minimalism (and 'tude) of this month’s thread… much better than some of the cutesy ones we’ve had.

There was one month where, during the previous week, dozens of great names were floated. Then, on the 29th, someone who wasn’t even participating started the mini-rants early with a lame, way-too-punny title. I’ve blocked it out, but it was along the lines of “Feeble-uary Things That Bother Me” (they even forgot to Mention Mini-Rants!).

That one was still better than the epic fail a month or so before that where the OP referred to the members as assholes or something.

Ugh sucky day at work.

Could have been “Thirty rants hath September”.

If it did, I’d feel ashamed to have started the Dope’s shortest-ever monthly mini-rant thread.

I had never heard of a chimichanga before the memes surrounding Deadpool a couple of years ago. And it turns out that’s because we call them Spring Rolls where I’m from. YMMV.

My minor rant is that my stupid brainless housemate, who has been away for three weeks which has made my life bearable by his absence, will be back home in a couple of days, and I am really disappointed that I didn’t manage to figure out how to prevent that from happening, by somehow affording to leave or whatever else.
