Independent Rants (July minirants)

Those were in my book suggested series: Game of Thrones and Outlanders

How did you guess?

I’ve done that.

Thank you. I find that comforting.

No, really. There’s several things I’ve bitched about here, only to have one or more people chime in with some version of, “Girl, same!” and I cannot express how much that warms the cockles of my heart.

Tops on that list apparently is “tried to roll down window - rear window went down instead” from a month or two ago, and now I’m tickled at how many people do that at work (I serve curbside pickup orders) and specifically newer model Hondas. Jesus on jam and toast, what crackhead design team decided where the window buttons go on Civics and Fits?

I hate it when I roll up all the windows when someone in the back seat has their arm on their window sill. I never roll it up painfully on my own arm.

I live alone and so I don’t often drive with anyone on the back seat so…I need to re-train myself.

And, of course, I have a 2014 Civic, so ditto on window button placement. Grrrr…

FUCK! I’m still positive for Covid-19. I had two tests last week and they both came back positive. I need to get rid of this virus. I’m feeling fine. I don’t have any symptoms. My temperature is running between 97 and 98°. My appetite is fine. I need to get some negative readings. I’m still potentially infectious. This pandemic sucks! It’s been almost three weeks now.

You fancy people and your window buttons…how about hitting a small bump while riding down the interstate, hearing a soft thunk from behind you, and suddenly getting hit with a gust of cold air (because it’s February)? This is why I carry a supply of decent suction cups now; you can stick them on the inside of the glass and use them to hold the window up until you have time to take the door apart and put the glass back in its track.

Well, that sucks but I’m glad you are feeling better.

I wonder how long the common cold hangs around in our system after we feel better?

Oh, and now “they” are saying quarantining for 10 days vs 14 when positive. Who “they” are I am not sure so no idea if it will apply to you… but maybe 4 less days of keeping your fellow man healthy while you stay in place? Reading some posts and news articles… other fellows don’t seem to care :frowning:

Keep feeling and being well and, though it sux, staying in/home/hospital until you test clear.

I really wish there was a legal way to send a viewing of a movie, listening to an album or reading of an e-book to family, friends or virtual friends.

The big problem is I was going to dialysis pretty close to my house. With the positive diagnosis, I have to go to a clinic way on the northwest side of town. I can’t come back closer to home until I have two consecutive negative tests.

I find that putting a Tums against it and letting it melt helps to take some of the pain out of the mouth sore. However, mine are not cold sores, they are little mouth ulcers that according to my dentist they don’t know the cause of them. (never had one outside my mouth). Alum works as well if you have any.

It is. Though its more modern so I guess is a blouse-ripper.

I bought some fancy overnight oats from Oats Overnight. I have tried each of the flavors in the variety pack and I am thoroughly not impressed. They are meant to be drank in the morning but the texture is really weird. They don’t have enough flavor to wow me either. And you have to make them with milk or milk substitute, which has made it inconvenient for me to eat them hot with a spoon the way oatmeal was supposed to be eaten. Overall, 2/10, do not recommend, and I still have four I need to eat. Don’t be wasting money and food.

I remember this kind of fun! '77 Chevy Impala, back door internally rusted. Flying down the highway, raining, hit a bump and it’s now raining inside! Luckily, it only fell down maybe 3" on one side, 5" on the other, but that sucked. I was a long ways from home. And at home, I parked outside.
I still keep a selection of tarps and duct tape in my considerably newer vehicle.

It was mostly my fault…the vehicle in question was only 22 at the time, but some of the windows hadn’t been rolled down in a while, so one day while stuck in traffic I got the brilliant idea to carefully actuate the windows. They all worked fine with minimal sticking except for that one rear window, which stuck briefly then let loose with a startlingly loud crack. Not only had it come off of the track, it had broken the little plastic rollers in the process. It’s back in the track now, and works fine as long as you don’t try rolling the window down all the way.

Poop. I’ve finished the back archive of Questionable Content strips and now I have to wait for the next one to show up.

Hey work people! The question you are asking me has been already answered by the goddamn email I sent, or by watching the goddamn video link that was in it. The very email you are using for your reply already contains the answer! I try very hard to make sure my emails are short, and any video demos I send are short. It takes WAY more time for you to ask this already-answered question and wait for an answer than it does to just read/watch what I sent in the first goddamn place. FFS.

Hey husband! Yes, you are retired now and there’s a lot of paperwork involved in getting various things set up. You are retired. You have the time, have good reading comprehension and can handle it. Don’t come bitching to me about the paperwork you have to do while I am still working for a living (and especially in the middle of having to deal with above work people). You are a lucky man. I love you, but please just shut up and do the paperwork!

Can I recommend some Girl Genius to tie up any free time you might have.

About that. I discovered this afternoon that the co-creator of the comic became ill, and there hasn’t been an update since last Friday.

It was NOT the 'Rona, and she is on the mend, btw. Get well soon, Kaja!

Missed the edit window: I CAN recommend Hark! A Vagrant. They’ve got a pretty good archive.

I know the USPS is basically in crisis right now, and that the current Postmaster General is a tool, but I’m finding it really fucking hard to have any sympathy for them when they send my package from Raleigh to a sorting facility in a town that is on the other side of the city from where I live. :rage: This is very unusual; small packages are typically sent directly to my post office once they hit Raleigh. It’s almost as if they’re intentionally delaying delivery (it’s scheduled for tomorrow, but will likely be next week at this rate).

They have been given orders to deliberately delay first class mail by 45’s sycophantic postmaster general. See this twitter thread by a carrier. This is all part of the GOP effort to destroy the post office; bonus points if they get it done before the November election so no one can mail in ballots.

Speaking of mouth sores…

I burned the roof of my mouth on some hot food, three days ago, and it’s still really painful. It feels rough, so could be peeling or blisters. I have a large aloe plant which I’ve used for external burns. Am wondering whether I can use the gel in my mouth. Anyone know?

I’m so tired of eating cold soft food.
