Indonesian Army ends "Two Finger" virginity test

Indonesian Army Ends ‘Two-Finger’ Virginity Tests on Female Recruits (newsweek.com)

“Previously we looked at the abdomen, genitalia in detail with the examinations of the pelvis, vagina and cervix. Now, we have done away with these examinations, especially with regards to the hymen, whether it has been ruptured and the extent of the rupture,” he said."

But wasn’t just the female recruits that suffered this indignity-Apparently women had to take this test if they wanted to marry someone in the Indonesian army! Even more idiotic was this statement:
"The virginity test was previously scrapped by the Indonesian police force. An Indonesian Navy spokesperson, Julius Widjojono, told Reuters on Wednesday female cadets are subjected to pregnancy tests, but other than that “both men and women undergo the same examinations.”

How the hell do you check male recruits for pregnancy and/or virginity?

Just another means of men trying to control women’s bodies. Never mind that there are many ways a hymen can be torn that don’t involve sex.

Just when you think you’ve heard it all. :rage:

I don’t approve of the process at all, but the answer to your question is simple. They don’t. This was in the statement by the police that the virginity test was already scrapped, and it specifically said female cadets are subjected to pregnancy tests.

From the article:

“We need to examine the mentality of these applicants. If they are no longer virgins, if they are naughty, it means their mentality is not good.”

See, they had a perfectly good reason for all that testing.

It was actually a statement by the Navy. But your point is correct. The Navy were noting that, with the exception of pregnancy tests, the examination for males and females was the same, ie, no virginity test for either.

“Indan Gilang, an air force spokesperson, told the outlet that “virginity tests” were not included in their terminology. However female reproduction tests, for cysts and other complications which could hamper their ability to serve, were undertaken.”
I highly doubt that first sentence, and I wonder if the second sentence is just renaming the test they originally performed.
