influenza

This started last Thursday at 5:00 am sharp when I woke to start the day, my life has been a little pocket universe of misery and hell.

I am one of those individuals that Mother Nature (that green bitch) has deemed to be unable to receive the flu vaccine due to an allergy. All these years I have been extremely lucky to have never caught the flu, until this year. at the tail end of the season and I get hit with Influenza type B (that fecking green Bitch)

So, my extended weekend off of work has comprised of me taking tons of ibuprofen floating in the hottest water I could stand, and trying (and failing) to sleep for more than 20 minutes at a time since Thursday, at 5am, when I woke up in an agony of muscle pain and body ache (oooohhh that mother fecking Green Bitch)

Lord how I would like to be able to show that fracking Green Bitch a new definition of Red in Tooth and Claw

Ouch :frowning: It’s been a few days since you posted that - are you over the worst yet (as in no longer actively praying for death)?

Check into the nasal flu vaccine. I don’t know if it is safer for those with an allergy to the injected kind.

Also can you look into getting tested for the allergy in question (eggs, I presume) on the off chance you’ve “outgrown” the allergy? No clue how likely that might be.

There is also a flu vaccine made without eggs: Flublok

However, the effectiveness rate for all flu vaccines this year is so low that it might not have mattered. Something to consider for next year.

I feel for you. I haven’t had the flu I several years, but I remember it hurt even moving my eyes side to side. Hell even my hair hurt. :frowning:

I hope you’re doing better now.

Some people start a sentence with, “I think I had the flu…” I think when you really have the flu, you really freaking know it!

Feel better!

I did NOT know about flublok, thanks for the tip (scribbles note to boss at work for next season) Hopefully, since my place of employment provides flu shots for free I can convince them to spring for that.

Mama, it is possible that I have outgrown it, well, no, it has lessened in severity, used to be I couldn’t eat chicken at all without getting all swollen, itchey and wheezy, these days I will sometimes get just a mild, almost less than conscious “itch” at the back of my throat, so its still there…

And yes, I am feeling better, just working my way through some residual tiredness and a little bit of left over conjestion

On the plus side of it, it was thanks to being miserable at home for a week that brought me back into posting status here.
