Inigo Gives It Away

My Father-in-law died earlier this month from a number of self-inflicted liver disorders. Apparently 82 years of hard livin’ finally took its toll on him. He was an alright guy, I’ll kinda miss him. He was sort of a father to me at a time when I needed one. His role at the time in no way made me consider my dealings with his daughter incestuous, however. In fact I enjoyed his paternal trust much more than he ever knew.

Where was I…Oh yeah, got a car out of the deal. See, back in 1994 my mother in law got herself a brand new loaded Camry. She was dead 4 years later from a number of self-inflicted cancers. The car passed to my sister-in-law. She immediately began her battle with breast cancer (despite her best efforts to not develop it) and kicked the bucket this past July. From her, the car passed into theownership of my father-in-law, who, while admittedly was already very ill, lasted all of 5 months–now also dead of cancer. My estranged spousal unit has happily bequeathed the car to me, presumably with the hope that it will work its magic on me.

No, I’m not giving it away. I’m giving away the 83 Corolla I’ve been rolling for the last 3 years or so. See, couple weeks ago I noticed a coworker hopping off the bus instead of climbing out of his car–seems he was paid a visit by The Repo Man. He has already done a backflip upon my proposal to rid myself of the ugly but operable vehicle in his direction. I cautioned him that the clutch has maybe a year left in it, and that the carb should be rebuilt–but he didn’t seem to mind much. It appears I have successfully made a kind and humanitarian gesture. I’m not sure how I feel about that.

You should feel good.

But do be on the lookout for any new bumps or lumps appearing on your body.

You should feel great about that. You did a nice thing for someone that appreciates it.

Just think how you’d feel if you gave him the Camry, and he got sick.

See? All better now?

::hearty pat on the back for being a nice guy::

Yeah, this could be a new Stephen King novella in the making!

Maybe you should have given the new car to your buddy and perhaps avoided something bad happening to you…

I am sorry to hear about all the stuff that has been going on in your family. That must be tough for you two.

Self exams don’t work for me. I always end up developing new “bumps” before I finish. But I think I’ll be alright–I made a midniht animal sacrifice (coyote) deep in the heart of Idaho when I was driving back to Colorado.

Were you driving the Camry?

Well…no. Come to think of it I actually performed the rite at a rest stop near Mountain Home. Catching the coyote was a challenge. Almost as much as wresting its virginity away before giving its body to the twin gods Dogar and Kazon. I just assumed they understood the act was a request for protection from Camry Cancer…

That’s got to be one of the best lines of the year. I’ll be looking for a chance to use it IRL.

You were as close as Idaho, and you didn’t just keep driving west? :dubious: Ink a Dink and I wil have to reconsider the offer of beer and Mexican food.

I was in Seattle attending my father-in-law’s funeral and helping sort out his estate. Had I a little more time to plan I suppose I could have headed south on I-5 and then cut east on I-70…but I’m just not that bright.

Wow! A kind and thoughtful gesture from Inigo?! Very nice! What happened to your anger issues?

you’ve never actually seen this car. Have you. [evil smiley]

I’m very sorry to hear about your loss.

But, perhaps you should get a geiger counter and run it through the Camry just to be on the safe side.

Trinity Motors: Buy a Camry, get a 10lbs. ingot of plutonium free!

You are a saint.

I’ve been riding the bus for more than a year now, and have come to hate it so much that if someone offered me a free running Toyota, I’d likely offer him services I can’t speak of in an open forum.

Hmmmmm…well, this guy’s sexual preferences are a bit ambiguous.
