Inside jokes you'd like to see in video games

I’d like to see an RPG or Zelda clone with a ridiulously long trading chain which has you crossing and recrossing the world finding the one guy one wants a hat with a picture of a taco on it. At the very end the last character will tease you about beig such a loser for doing all that work and take the last item without giving anything in return.

At one point in “Secret of Evermore” for the SNES you enter a town and all the houses are empty and you can, like always, open up peoples chests and take their stuff. If you do so however when you finally find all the townspeople you get in trouble.

Maybe that was “Secret of Evermore.” It sounds familiar and seems in keeping with that game’s character.

Nope, never played it.

There was an interesting riff on The Hero’s Destiny[sup]tm[/sup] in Arcanum. Right at the beginning, a young priest runs up to you insisting that you are the reincarnation of a great hero, destined for great things. Near the end, you can discover (depending on the path you take) that

the hero is in fact still alive, being an elf who went into hiding. Therefore you can’t be his reincarnation. He tells you that you are a hero because you chose to be one, not because you were destined.

In Fallout 2, sometimes when you were beating the crap out of some thugs they would say, “I really need a Limit Break.”

Maybe a cutscene in a FPS that shows some rookie starting to hold his weapon in some ridiculous position (which, in a brief “rookie’s-eye-view” shot reveals that it gives him a standard FPS-style view of his gun), before being reprimanded by a superior.

That, or, during your typical tutorial level…

NPC/Instructor: “Press ‘x’ to open the safe!”
PC [Pauses, looks over shoulder at NPC]: “Press…wha? What did you say?”
NPC: “I said ‘open the damn safe’!

Obviously this thread can proceed no further without some fool posting this link
