Inspector Gadget the cartoon series

I used to watch this show all the time back in the 80’s. (NOTE:I haven’t seen the movie starring Matthew Broderick, and don’t care to either.) I have probably seen the entire series of toons about a dozen times over, yet the question remains…

In the tv show, WTF exactly was Inspector Gadget? They never said. Was he 100% robot? Cyborg? Bionic man? Was he human at all? If he was ever at all human how did he become “gadgetized?”

He was human, but with all these odd gadgets surgically implanted in his body.

Yep. I have a vague recollection of one episode involving the scientist who gave him his gadgets.

I think there might have been more than one episode, but, yeah, it’s just a vague memory.

Now, does anybody remember Danger Mouse?

Danger Mouse! I do! I do!

Okay, now we have two for Danger Mouse, what about Banana Man?

I remember Danger Mouse. Used to watch Inspector Gadget, too.

How about Count Duckula?

I loved Count Duckula!

I remember all those shows. Used to watch them all the time when I lived in England. I remember watching early morning cartoons…the good old days of Inspector Gadget, Danger Mouse, and Count Duckula.

I never quite understood how Count Duckula and Danger Mouse were connected, though.

I have recollections of all the above. Who remembers Mighty Mouse?

Here I come to save the day!!!

How about the Karate Kats?

Duckula? I thought it was Quackula; or was that someone else entirely?

I believe the waterfowl superhero in question is: ** Darkwing Duck**

No, no, no. Two seperate ducks. Darkwing Duck was a Disney creation while Count Duckula was British. Duckula’s show was on Nickelodeon.

YES! Banana Man! Whenever Eric eats a banana…

Duckula… Vague memories; he drank ketchup, correct? The things I missed by not having cable…

Count Duckula and Danger Mouse were both made by the same company, Cosgrove-Hall. As were Victor and Hugo, FantomCat, and Avenger Penguins.

In one episode of Danger Mouse (voiced by David Jason, incidently), they encounter Count Duckula (who was voiced by David Jason also) when they needed one of his feathers to complete a quest.

He was a very different Duckula to the one in his own cartoon series, though, so I suspect he was an ancestor.

In the Duckula series, he was a vegetarian vampire, and had two retainers: Igor the manservant, who kept trying to make Duckula more vampirical, and Nanny, a huge woman (canary) who was accident prone and clumsily kept breaking things. e.g:

SFX: ding dong

Nanny: Oi’ll geddit, Duckyboos!

Duckula: No, Nanny, no!

SFX: Crash of door being ripped off hinges

Nanny: Ooh. Now 'ow did that 'appen?
Duckula’s enemies included Dr Von Goosewing, the vampire hunter, who believed he had an invisible servant called Heinrich (but in fact Heinrich had quit his job and Von Goosewing never realised).

The other enemies varied, but recurring a few times were a group of burglar crows, and also two french police detectives Pierre and Gaston (whom the subsequent series of Victor and Hugo were based on).

I knew I’d seen a “Quackula” somewhere. He was a minor character on the New Adventures of Mighty Mouse. Couldn’t find a picture, but here’s the link I found:

Oh, man! I never missed Inspector Gadget! I loved Bananaman and DangerMouse, especially the song…“Danger Mouuuuse, Danger Mouuuuuuuuse…” What was his sidekick, Penfold? Was he a mole? That’s what I always figured.

Holee crap do I remember Duckula! Guanolad, your dialogue was right on and brought it all back. I think Duckula was on sometime near the Laff-a-lympics (sp?)

I was always a big fan of Underdog too, he looked like he was drawn by the same folks who did Mighty Rat.
