Instant spell check on the SDMB now?

For the record, I’ve just downloaded FireFox 2.0, and installed it onto my desktop.

Now, even as I type this, I can inntentionally missspell words, and they pop up with a little red underline in the ‘typing box’ on the “Post New Thread” page.

Did yous guys install some new feature on the Dope, or is this something in FireFox?

Weird. “Yous” doesn’t get underlined. But all of my intentional misspellings do. FireFox must be made in Jersey.

It’s a feature of Firefox 2.0 which incorporated the inline spellcheck feature of the Spellbound extension. You’ll find it works on all text input boxes now. I’m currently using Firefox 1.5 and I get the same functionality with the Spellbound Development extension.

On an ironic side note, the extension flags “Firefox” as an incorrect spelling.

So that’s how all the smug bastards on here keep from making mistakes. Got it.

Missed a couple.

I noticed that too, when I was OPing.

Much obliged.

Yous guys rock. <–see! “yous” didn’t come up!

literally

If you have Internet Explorer, the ieSpell add-on is a right-click spell checker for text boxes.

It’s not particularly ironic because “firefox” is not a word. When you capitilize it to Firefox it recognizes it as a proper noun and doesn’t flag.

So how do I get my Firefox to do this spell checky thing?

Upgrade to the latest version and then click on “Bookmarks/Mozilla Firefox/Customize Firefox” and follow the prompts for Add-ons.

Actually, I just upgraded to Firefox 2.0 and the spell check was installed/enabled by default. I didn’t have to do anything extra.

If you don’t want to upgrade to Firefox 2.0, you can install one of the following, depending upon which version you are running:

SpellBound - Download - SpellBound 0.73 for Firefox 1.0 and earlier

SpellBound Development version - mozillaZine Forums - SpellBound development version for 1.5 and up.

Go on, upgrade to 2.0. You know you want to.

All you need to do is upgrade. As has been said, Firefox 2.0 includes a spellchecker as standard. It doesn’t need to be switched on and you don’t need any further addons for this function.
