Mozilla Firefox 2.0: recommended for the typing-challenged

Many have lamented the lack of an edit function on the SDMB. They’ll type a message, post it, and only afterwards find an assortment of typos. Because they can’t edit messages, the typos are now carved in stone.

Mozilla Firefox 2.0 has an inline spellchecker that highlights misspelled words in Web forms. Although you still can’t edit a posted message, this might help those who, like me, are prone to frequent slips of the keys.

But why not simply check your messages before posting, not only for grammar, but also for meaning and tone?

That’s why we have a ‘Preview Post’ button!

(Smilies also appear on preview  )

Or better still, simply never make mistakes.

Actually, I’m running Firefox 2.0 here and I have the ‘Check my spelling as I type’ option checked, but it deosn’t seme to maek any diffeereence to the appaerance of txet as I type it in this reply box (none of the mistyped words in this post were highlighted or corrected)…

You must have done something, because I’m looking at your text inside the quote tags and I’m seeing little red lines under all your misspellings. It has, in fact, been doing that ever since I installed version 2.0.

It does not, however, have an “auto-correct” feature, AFAIK. You still have to fix your “tpyos” yourself.

All I did was install it; it wasn’t even an upgrade on this machine.

Ah. I didn’t seem to have a dictionary installed, or at least needed to download the British-English one - maybe Firefox comes with the US version by default but wasn’t using it because it detected my locality from some Windows global thing.

So I have red squiggly lines too now, although interestingly, the only one in this post is under the word ‘Firefox’. Snerk.
