I thought I would start a thread to put suggestions or others to put links of cool things for Xmas gifts/presents in general for their loved ones.
Yeah, I know, it’s not December 23.5, what would be the point of even starting to look now? I love to waste vast quantities of time reading magazines, looking at their buyer guides, going to websites and getting lost in the labryinth world of the Web. I’ve found some fun and totally awesome things out there that simply must be shared/ Daddy’ Done Good Gifts Totally Out Of Hand
I have no idea how long it takes for a peice to be created, but Xmas/Hanakah/Kwanzaa/Election Day is approaching at a rapid rate.
I will try to link them in catagories rated upon my whims and attention spa… ooooh look, shiny penny!
** First Present Gifts **
Little and the Girl A little pricey for such an odd thing, but you know you want it. Everyone wants one of these. They are so freakin’ awesome. So, be a better person, give it as a gift to someone you love.
The word, in the meaning of a person’s strengths (talents, skills, etc.) entered from the French, where the word is fort (pronounced /for/), but it somehow picked up the Italian spelling, forte. However, the Italian word does not carry the connotation of skill and talent (and is most frequently associated, in English, with musical directions where it means (in casual conversation to alienate the musically literate) loud).
Purists insist on pronouncing the English word forte as /fort/ (just like the military defensive position). However, the purists are being overwhelmed by hoi polloi who insist that the final e (that does not even appear in French) be pronounced as if it were Italian (that does not use the word in that sense).
Regardless how one pronounces it, there is no accent aigu over the final e.
In order to create an accented e on a PC, hold down the Alt key, then, on the numeric pad (not the numbers across the top of the keyboard), enter 0233 to produce é or, for the accent grave, use Alt+0232, è. (Or go to the Character Map and copy the character, then paste it in.)

See, MizQuirk this is a thread about how we aren’t as sharp as some of the folks here, take TomnDeb for instance. Now, Shirley Ujest posted a clever bon-mot in keeping with this theme.
Uhhh, let me know if you’re not keeping up or something.
Following this post, with obvious misspellings, (see that’s the part that made her post funny - do you need to take a break yet?) I came back with a knee-slapping, boogers-flying-out-of-your-nose witticism of my own.
That’s the, “I don’t get it,” part that evidently was causing you concern.
These things are called jokes. Granted not especially memoriable ones, but jokes nonetheless.
But I greet you in the name of IIUDism as my brother/sister as the case may be.
I can beat everyone I know at trivia games and I can dazzle all the morons at work with my broad spectrum of knowledge (but that’s only because I hang out here and read what all the smart people are saying and then parrot it back).
I’ll even take an oath. I solemnly swear that I have contributed nothing of any intellectual value to the SDMB and will continue not to as long as I live.
Oh, no, the spelling just comes from trying to learn to read by using a dictionary. It’s the stuff like
P
. I . O
. / L
. I . E
. /\ I
./ \ I
that I can’t grasp.
Hey! Q.E.D. can keep his sciency words and stuff! I want to know what Tom Clancy has to say on the matter! Had you cited Tom in that thread, you’d have scored a slam dunk, thread’s over, this is the final word, eat my shorts, what are you looking at down there, game over, oneeee hunnnndredddd annnnn’ eighhhhhty! I think. Can I join?
I am still an idiot and probably due to the gaff of mine, somehow, brought down the boards during the Crash of 04. It’s all my fault in some cosmic way.
But how do I know this isn’t some huge whoosh thread?
How do I know that admitting intellectual inferiority isn’t just some complex and sophisticated way of expressing how smart you are and I can’t see it?
Then another thread gets started with the theme of: "Ha, Ha, look at the newbie. He (my name) actually *did * admit he was stupid.
Maybe I should do a site search and see if this thread is not just an annual right of passage to filter out the pretenders. Something like "mentally inept dopers unite and profess, proudly, your ineptitudeness V (wink, wink).
At first, I tried to establish my credibility in the heavyweight fora (see, I even tried writing ‘fora’ instead of ‘forums’ to impress folk with my classical credentials) like GD. When that failed I turned to the Pit to display my acerbic wit and caustic charm. Now that has failed too, I mooch around in the murky underworld of MPSIMS, Cafe Society and IMHO, trying to make an impact. But being virtually clueless about everything, my function has now boiled down to starting threads which will be immediately sidetracked into something more interesting.
You need a regional secretary for SE Asia, I’m your man.
Also note this wasn’t even a GD thread! It was a low-grade, mentally un-taxing cafe society thread. I think this makes me inherent challenger for President when, if ever, we have elections.
You’re understandably proud of your achievements, High Cheese. But I was able to demonstrate my complete ignorance of the constitutional arrangements of the place where I live in a thread I had started with the express purpose of showing off my knowledge.
See #8 for my attempt to appear a good loser and limit the damage.
