Fidel Castro was absent from this year’s July 26 celebrations in Cuba, Raul Castro delivered the usual speech instead.
But the most interesting part of the event was where Raul Castro gave the speech. It seems a relief of Fidel Castro was added a couple of days before the speech to a tribune that previously had reliefs of Ernesto Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos, both dead.
This may mean nothing, but I should note that as far as I know this is the only statue of Fidel Castro in the island. Fidel himself once boasted that one would never find statues of him in Cuba.
