International cricket rolling thread

Not to take anything away from the Netherlands, but that was embarrassing for SA.

Based on the current form line, (AUS v SA v NED) when AUS play NED I’m not sure AUS’s batting will get double figures.

AUS v PAK 0-96 off 12
Rauf 0-32 off 2
Taking 39 off 12 at the 10th over mark
Debutant Mir putting down the gentlest of dolly catches.

Life can be really tough for PAK cricket supporters

Interesting stats from Andy Zaltzman on opening in this WC vs others:

Overs 1-10 in first innings of match so far in this World Cup - 5.35 runs per over, 15 wickets in 18 innings, a wicket every 72 balls.
2019 - 4.88 per over, wicket every 55 balls.
2015 - 4.30 per over, wicket every 40 balls.
2011 - 4.62 per over, wicket evert 45 balls.

… This has enabled batting side to attack hard in overs 6-10 - scoring rate for teams batting first in overs 6-10 has been 6.01 (up from 5.02 in 2019, 4.47 in 2015, 4.68 in 2011), and averaged 54.1 runs per wicket (up from 50.7 in 2019, 32.5 in 2015, 33.7 in 2011).

It’s always a batter’s game, but much more so this WC apparently.

(134-0 after 16).

Realizing it’s damned unlikely even now, but have the 1-2 batters ever gone all 50 overs in an Cup-class ODI?

Warner and Marsh both at 109 (32.2 overs played). Australia at 231/0.

I highly doubt it, but am wondering if this is approaching some kind of record. I’m watching twin 109’s at the moment. Pretty impressive, although helped by 2 drops.

And after the last drop (which went for 4 and injured the Pakistani player who had to go off), Warner came back for 6, 4, 4, 0. 18 runs for him in that over (19 total). The partnership’s current RR is 7.42.

Well, 259 ain’t bad. Especially with 1/3 of their innings still remaining. Aus looking at 400+.

Or… could they possibly botch this? Maxwell out on 1st ball!

Given my previous comments about the misfortunes of other “big” teams, I guess I had it coming. Still hurts though.

Smith gone. Not sure this is a positive for Pakistan.

For the openers to bat all 50 overs can only really happen in the first innings.
There has been no instance of a 50 over opening partnership in ODIs.

The highest unbeaten opening partnership is Amla and de Kock (SA) v Bangladesh in 2017 in 2nd innings scoring 0-282 off 42.5

The highest opening partnership in ODIs is Campbell and Hope (WI) v Ireland in 2019 scoring 365 before Campbell was dismissed in the 48th over.

So the good news is Pakistan haven’t dropped a wicket in the first 10 overs. The less good news is that they scored at less than a run a ball, which naturally drives up the RRR. At some point soon, they’re going to have to accelerate quite hard if they want to be in the vicinity of a chance.

I hate this, they are giving me hope.

131/0 off 20

This could be one of the all time biggest hammerings anyone’s ever dished out in a World Cup match between big teams.

The table will be interesting after this game, with half the teams at 1-3.

Hope is the very devil, so what a relief for England fans to have been spared any in this match.

We calculated before the match that England needed to lose by less than 280 to stay ahead of Afghanistan on NRR.

We were joking.

Stokes came out of retirement for this.

Well, it’s certainly been a good sport weekend for South Africa.
