Will the Kabbess be along? We really need to get her posting.
Crusoe, perhaps a quick detour to Monkeychews and a glass of absinthe is in order?

Through freakish coincidence, my first day on my own in London will be Saturday the 25th. I may be meeting a friend that evening so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make the pub visit, but I will try to meet up with you all at Waterloo Station.
It’s funny, I never thought I’d meet any Dopers in person, and here I’ll be doing it for the first time on the other side of the ocean!
Plenty of pubs around the way… having just returned from the Czech Republic though I may give my overtaxed absinthe-sodden liver a rest from that infernal spirit.
Twisty we’re back on my home turf again now. Can I tempt you to follow Crusoe’s tasty suggestion? Lightly piquant and eversodelicately spiced, you won’t go far wrong.
I can’t even persuade the kabbess to send an e-mail to her dear friend. Whilst I have done my best, an on-line message board seems to be a bridge way too far. If it isn’t a home furnishings website, it has no place on her computer.
As for the 25th - she may be visiting family that weekend. We shall have to wait and see.
Lamia - please do try to make it. At this rate you will be representing the whole American continent. Or at least the part of it that still lives in America.

I’m bumping this…
bump
…to say that British Airways has an internet special running for NYC-London for $299.
bump again
Less than 2 weeks away!
bump I’ll be there for chrissakes…
*dustballs roll past the thread…
Well, Anahita will be there!! You have to come now!!
Well, even though we really should be doing the Circle Line or Monopoly board pub crawl, this sounds like fun.
Also, I live near Alex B, and someone’s going to have to take him home (obviously Francesca gets first refusal).

(nb: Take home as in guide him towards his house, rather than anything, um, less savoury ;))
Cool beans. Shaolin is actually the man who introduced me to the Straight Dope. You have him to thank or berate.
See you all at Waterloo or the Silver Moon… uhhh… Silver Cross (just kidding Ianzin ;))
Despite not doing a Circle Line pub crawl, I’m sure we could fit in a rousing game of Mornington Crescent while we’re there. I know we’ve got a few skilled players in our ranks. Gibberty Rules of course.
I introduced you to the Straight Dope, you amnesiac bint.

Crap.
You know, if I didn’t hate those “amusing band name” threads with a passion that could melt steel at a thousand feet, I’d suggest “Amnesiac Bint” as … no, I’m not going there.
That’s what happens if you call me bint. I will now point and laugh.
Er… sorry to point out the obvious, Francesca, but if we do play MC, then technically the Silver Cross will be regarded as the venue for the game, and since it is north of the river Gibberty Rules can only apply if an odd number of contestants have previously declared stumps [see Revised Canonical Rules, 93 edition, supplement section © Re ‘Game venue’].
A more troublesome technicality arises from the date. Since we are meeting on the 25th, which is not evenly divisible by 13, Gibberty Rules can obviously apply to motion East but not West (with the exception of Arnos Grove). However, if the game endures beyond midnight, hence the official ‘Date of Play’ becomes 26, this rule is of course reversed (with the exception of all the Actons).
Will we be allowing Fork Moves on lines West?
Only in the event of Venus being visible in the night sky, as dictated in St. Swithin’s Cononical, 1945.
Oops… stupid me! Thanks TwistOfFate, you’re absolutely correct, of course. I should have remembered that. My only excuse is that for a while I did try the Harris Multi-Play version of the game, where of course the Key Rules (movement and direction) of the St. Swithin’s Canonical no longer applied (except for portions of the Metropolitan Line). Personally, I didn’t really like the Harris version much, and I’m glad it has more or less died out. Do you happen to know if Venus will be visible on the 25th? It would be nice, as then I can declare Stirrups on the opening round which I think makes for more exciting play.
Indeed, declaring stirrups would make for an exciting game, but I find that style of play to truly be in the spirit of the game when advance notice of the declaration of Stirrups is given in conjunction with an abandonment of the Zone 3 stops until the at least one player reaches Elephant and Castle.
this was once led best used by Zoromir in his Castillian attack of the 1984 championchip.
I humbly request that at the pub, someone purchases a pint, names it lno, and has everyone’s picture taken with it.
