I’m running IE 5.5 SP1 and it frequently crashes when I close it down (Alt-F4). I notice that Microsoft issued a patch (which I’ve installed) which offers to report (via the net) any crashes. This leads me to believe that they’ve got some serious problems with it.
Is anybody else having this problem? If so, have you been able to do anything about it?
I don’t really think that error reporting in itself is indicitave that IE55 is error-prone. I think it probably relates more to the fact that MS wants to know what is happening when IE55 crashes. The many 3rd party patches out there make a support nightmare for Microsoft and they probably need a little better idea of what is going on out there.
I haven’t had any browser-related problems with IE since 3.x. V4 & 5 have been extremely smooth for me. I try to keep my core OS components, including my browser, as close to stock as possible. I check WindowsUpdate at least once a week. My machines (my 3 and 5 others I am responsible for) don’t get unstable unless I load too much crap on them.
Running Win98SE and I.E.5.5 with SP1 installed here also.
Ayesha and I have been having problems with I.E crashing alot the last couple of days for no apparent reason.
Our system had been running stable in that configuration for the last couple of months.
About the middle of last week it just started crashing, the good news everything seems to have straightened out on its own with in the last 24 hours.
I read a couple of weeks ago that the sun was having a rash of solar storms at the time with the potential for the disruption of electronic devices.
Hopefully by the time you read this your system fixes itself also.
Peace
