Internet Explorer and Windows 95 problem

Recently, when clicking on my Ie icon, I got an error message, and so was unable to load. I have Netscape and Opera, so I figured I’d just delete the Ie and then go to Microsoft’s website and download a fresh Ie (5 I believe is what I had). That proved to be beyond my ken, as several patches are involved and I was unable to figure how to even find an Ie to download.
As a consequence of deleting the Ie, it apparently took some other stuff with it so that my Netscape Communicator won’t load, nor will other apps like Outlook Exp and my Address book. The only thing that enables me to get on the Internet is my Opera.
Now, my question is, what the heck can I do to get Internet Explorer back? Is it possible? Any suggestions? Thanks.

You can get IE from download.com. Scroll down a bit, and you’ll find 5.x.

(Personally, I’d recommend learning and loving Opera.)

give IE 6.0 a shot. I realize it does not list Win 95 as a supported OS, but if it runs under 98, it should run under 95. Unfortunately this is the only full-install download of IE Microsoft currently offers. If you have any old AOL disks around, I think prior to version 5.0, it will install either IE 5.0 or 5.5 as part of the setup.

Thanks, Troy, for the link, but my problem remains–I cannot locate a plain old Internet Explorer 5 for my Windows 95–all I see offered are service packs, updates, spoofing thingies, etc. How do I find “Internet Explorer 5”–no more, no less?

I see QED has responded–thank you!! I’ve tried IE 6, and I get a message at some point saying 95 won’t work. Great idea on AOL disks; I’ll try to find one, 'tho highly doubtful I have any hanging around–who knew???

I found an download if IE 5.5 here.

Thanks, QED! I am on office computer right now, but will give a go when I get home. I appreciate the effort the effort. Will keep you posted.

While IE 6 probably would run under Win95, as I recall, its install program refuses to proceed once it realizes you’re using 95.

I get a message just as the setup begins that the program is “unable to use current proxy settings.” So I guess the next step is to call my ISP?
