Internet Explorer maximity

Whenever I open up a new IE5 using the “Open link in new window” (which I do a lot), it’s not maximized. It used to be it would be. How do I get it to always start up maximized?

generally it should remember how you last closed it. So, open a few windows, maximize them and close them. See if they open maximized. They should but Windows is quirky. try it again if it doesn’t work the first time

Your suggestion does not work sailor. When I’m on line, I usually have three or four windows open simultaneously. I constantly use the “open in new window” option, and it NEVER comes up in a maximised window, not matter what size my last attempt was amended to.

I would lovwe to know how to get around this, too.

I, too, would love to know how to control this feature. It seems to have a mind of its own. Some days maximized, some days not. Any one know of a way to control this?

You can try right clicking the on the IE icon, then going to properties, clicking on the shortcut tab, then in the pulldown menu and that says ‘run’ switch the option to ‘maximized’. I tried doing this myself, but the IE sub window still opened smaller than the maximized parent. But, maybe it’ll be different for your machine.

maybe theis will work. In the registry:
HKCU\Software\MS\IE\Document Windows

there is a string key called “maximized”

my value says “no”. Try changing it to “yes”

Ignore my previous post. I tried it and it does not work. I should have thought it refers to documents opened within IE and not to IE itself. I looked around the register but could not find any keys that would seem to be linked to this.

Another thing I’d like to know is when does IE decide to open a new window or to use the same window.

Say I have a folder full of JPG images. Now I start clicking on them and IE opens a new window for each. It used to be it would use the same window.

I have learnt to live with these things but I am curious.

When I right-clicked on the IE thing (in the browser upper right corner), it didn’t bring up “properties” on the menu. I found a “properties” thing under the File menu, but no shortcut tab. I sure wish this method really existed!

The web page designer encodes that, using Javascript or something.

ishmintingas, read my post carefully. I am talking about double clicking on files in my computer, not on links in HTML pages. I know how to do it in HTML code. But my question is related to WIN95 and IE5 not HTML.

There must be a better way to do it than the way I found, but whatever it is, I don’t know it. (BTW, I’m using IE 4.0, not IE 5, but I’ve noticed the same problem).

Open one IE window. If it’s maximized, click on the restore button (between the close and minimize buttons in the upper right corner). Now click and drag the corners of the window until it’s as big as it can get. It will almost the size of the maximized version. Close this window. Open a new IE window. It should open in “restored” mode, but about the size of a maximized window. Important: maximize this window. Now all new windows will open in “restored” mode, but about the size of a maximized window. Just remember to maximize the first window you open in any session. The rest will take care of themselves, provided you open them with open in new window rather than by clicking on the IE icon.

Re the IE5 maximization question, go to http://forum.arstechnica.com/forum/ubb/Forum12/HTML/000046.html and read the posts by orangejulius and raveus.

Re doubleclicking on files on your computer, you specifically mention IE5 and that means Internet Explorer, so ishmintingas’ reply about HTML is correct. However, if you mean Windows Explorer (IE and WinExplorer are not the same thing), go to My Computer|View|Options and click on “Browse folders by using a single window that changes as you open each folder.”
