Ok, I’ve got IE up and click on a link. A new window appears. I resize it. I kill it. I click another link and a new window appears with the new size. I maximize it, then kill it. I click another link but the new window is not maximized, but is of the old size. Why? I want it to be maximized.
Because it’s stupid. Period.
Really I’ve never understood that one. Why there can’t be a option for all new IE windows to open maximized I’ll never understand. And don’t tell me to just resize it as big as it will go. That’s different then being maximized. Why?
Let’s say I have a program open and maximized. Then I open IE (or any other program) and make it as big as it’ll go (without maximizing it). Now if I try to close the top (resized but not maxed) window by just moving my mouse all the way to the top right corner and clicking, I’ll end up closing the window behind it instead.
I really thought they’d have that fixed in IE 7.
But I digress, to answer the OP AFAIK there is no way to do what you want. It’s been problem for a LONG time.
(There’s gotta be a tweak program that can fix it, is there?)
Thanks.
Not to doubt you, but it seems like in the past I’ve gotten around this problem, I just can’t remember how. What happens if you restart? Or perhaps Opera or Firefox, which I have used in the past, don’t have this problem.
It used to work like this:
Close all IE windows but one; resize and position that one to taste, then close it. if you have more than one IE window open, none of your sizing and positioning changes will be applied.
I think that still works, but it only works for resized windows. You can’t make it sitck for maximized ones. Now, I’m not a computer programmer (well not anymore, nothing past high school AP classes), but it still seems like a really easy fix (or option).
It’s easy, but not obvious. When a window comes up, don’t maximize by hitting the upper-right group. Stretch the window by click-and-dragging the corners. Then close it, but not with the X button. Right-click on the title bar at the top, and when you get a drop down box, click close. If I remembered this right, the next new window will pop up full-size, and will from now on.
But that’s not maximized.
Go here and download ‘IE New Window Maximiser’ which does pretty much what you’d expect from the name. It’s a small program set to run on startup that automatically maxmises new windows when you open them. The fact that it exists is pretty good evidence that there’s no other way to get IE to do what you want. It was written a while ago but seems to work fine with IE7 for me.
