For the past two days, whenever I open Internet Explorer I get a teeny-tiny little window. About an inch square. I have to maximize it (or manually resize it) if I want to actually view content. This seems to have happened right after I deleted all my cookies. (Which I did because I was getting all these pop-up ads and weird running times and I had run AdAware and it hadn’t gotten any better and I was desperate, so if cookie-deletion was a nonsense attempt at solving that problem, please don’t scoff. Too much.)
Anyway, I’ve been trying to figure out how I can get IE to know that I want to open new windows either already maximized or sized to a reasonable size. I’ve tried resizing the windows then closing them but this approach doesn’t seem to work. Any suggestions?
My method for resizing windows is to have only 1 window open, change it to the size I want it when non-maximized, then closing it. Reopen IE, and it should be the size you want it.
Size the IE window without maximizing it, then go to the File menu and select Close instead of closing it with the X. This will fix the problem most of the time. Holding down the Ctrl key while clicking the X may also work.
Try maximizing the window, hold down ctrl while clicking on the “X”. This should make all future windows open full size.
Thanks, folks! There seems to be a unanimity of opinion here, so I shall try that. If you don’t hear from me again, you can assume it worked! Thank you, thank you!
Number, I just hit the X, and it always works for me. I think the secret to this is only having ONE IE window open while doing this.
That usually works, but for some unknown reason IE will sometimes refuse to remember the new size.
Possibly related problem: sometimes when I have a whole slew of IE windows open, and click on yet another link, the new window is some strange size BUT there’s no scrollbar (vert or horiz) AND you cannot resize the window by grabbing and dragging. Basically the new window acts like a fixed-size popup window, and only shows a small part of the full page, starting in the left upper corner.
I’ve never found a way to fix this other than to close the window and try clicking on the link again. Sometimes I have to do it multiple times. Is there an easier way to convert this bastard window into a normal one?
