I listen to a lot of internet radio. One of my favorites is GA Tech’s WREK (http://www.wrek.org/) from Atlanta. Its standard daytime formatting is extremely diverse; I would not be surprised to hear Napalm Death followed by the Frank Zappa on the rock rhythm and roll sound block. The also have very good shows in the evening like “Destroy all Music” which is industrial; noise ect, or “Kosher Noise” which is all music (of any genre) written or played be Jews. Please post some of your favorite internet steaming stations. Thanks
Hmmm. How do you listen to it? I click on - listen now - live://128 kpbs::hi-fi stereo. Then - Open. I get - Invalid menu handle.
If they want me to listen they’ll have to make it easier than that.
That’s weird. It always works for me fine; I open it with Itunes if that matters. Sorry you can’t get it. You could try the archives just to see if that will work.
I think Pandora is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I have countless stations on there.
Enjoy all these while you can. Most of the Internet radio stations and services like Pandora could shut down after May 15, unless Congress intervenes.
I know most of the Dope frowns down upon the stuff that gets played on the radio these days, but slacker.com is really great for new music. It’s basically a conventional top 40 radio station playing most of the stuff you’ll find on the Billboard charts.
What’s the straight dope on this? I signed some kind of petition about it, and my senator (Barbara Boxer) assures me (via form letter) that the increase for internet broadcasters is only five percent over what they were already paying.
Now I know not to trust a politician. But I also suspect that in this context, that number wouldn’t have been simply pulled out of a hat. What I want to know is, where they got the number, and how the number is a deceptive-even-if-strictly-true one.

I used to listen to WREK when I was in art school because it was the closest thing to 100.5 in Memphis that played the ‘out there’ music (we’re talking early 70s).
These days I love LuxuriaMusic.com for the wide ranging format. Not too many places you get to hear offbeat Sinatra, theme from Jonny Quest, Mongo Santamaria, radio ads for Proctor Silex from the 70s, Japanese disco music, little known surf music, 60s TV theme songs, Doktor Zoil (Are you touching my monkey?), Julie London, Stan Getz, Free Design and station IDs by Miguel Ferrer in the same hour. The Space Patrol show is my fav since it’s 60s space and spy music (ever hear "I’m in Love With A Robot Man?)
They have already pulled out of iTunes radio so you have to go to the website to listen. I support them as often as I can but I fear for them.
I think Australia’s JJJ is just about the best radio station on earth for keeping up with modern music. Apart from broadcasting over the net they have heaps of streaming specials and all sorts of free goodies.
Also from Australia, Brisbane’s 4BH. Great mix of music from the '60s to the '90s.
For talk radio, Paul Harris on KMOX, 2-6 pm Central. No politics, no politicians; “talk radio for people who never thought they’d listen to talk radio.”
