Internet surfing error- what does this mean?

I keep getting this, when I am at CNN.com and trying to link to various stories :

Bad Gateway

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.

What the heck does that mean in English, and how do I avoid it? I’m on Mac OS-X, 10.4

Cartooniverse

If this doesn’t happen with any other website, it’s likely a problem with your ISP. Talk to them and see if they know what it means.

You can also try accessing the site through a web proxy – basically, a service that forwards the site to you through their own servers.

Try:
http://www.cnn.com.nyud.net:8090/

or
http://anonymouse.org/cgi-bin/anon-www.cgi/http://www.cnn.com

Sorry, I missed the part where you said you were trying to go to other pages within cnn.com. In that case, it may be a problem with THEIR servers and not your ISP; but whatever the case, you can still try a web proxy.

The anonymouse method would be better if you’re going to be clicking on other links from the first page.
