Interview With the Vampire, the series

Anybody watching this? At first I was bitterly disappointed that it wasn’t an accurate to the book version, but eventually I started to like some of the new twists on the story.

I just started the first episode the other night and haven’t had a chance to finish it. What I’ve seen so far, I like.

I’m enjoying the show so far. It does definitely take a lot of liberties from the book but I think it works better than the Jack Ryan series did for Tom Clancy’s books.

I liked it. Up until Claudia appeared with the worst southern accent since Raymond J. Barry in Justified.

I honestly don’t know if i can handle it. I’m like physically startled whenever she pronounces “me” as meh. Just cus it works for Justin Timberlake, sweetheart . . .

You know, in the books Claudia was 5 years old. That was supposed to be shocking–it was something that was an abomination even to other vampires. In the movie Kirsten Dunst was 11 years old and I can understand the practical reasons for using an older actor (on top of the squicked-out audience ones). But the new actress is nineteen years old. That seems like…a perfectly normal age to become a vampire? Even if the character is supposed to be younger, the actress doesn’t look younger. So that takes away the shock value.

I’m talking only about how terrible her southern accent is.

I know, but I’m talking about how watered-down the meaning of the character is.

I am enjoying it and having a hard time keeping it out of my mind. I love Anne Rice’s works and have even visited New Orleans specifically to see the places the characters lived. I like the change to Louis. It works. I have, so far, seen the first three episodes. I’m hooked.

While I’m at it, the actor playing Louis, Jacob Anderson, is AMAZING. I was surprised when I realized he’s also the actor who plays Vinder in Doctor Who. I will be looking for his other character portrayals! Same for Lestat. I was not a fan of other’s who played him in the past, but Sam Reid brings all the levels in his portrayal.

I’m loving Sam Reid!

Probably most famously known for playing Grey Worm in Game of Thrones.

I imagine they went older because casting a ten year old as an immortal, unaging vampire isn’t going to work in a show that runs more than a couple years.

If the TV show conforms to the book at all that… isn’t going to become an issue.

Depends on how long the series takes to get to that point in the story, doesn’t it?

I will usually give a show a minimum of two episodes before I give up on it. When I started on “Interview With the Vampire” I barely made it through the second episode before deleting it from the record list on my DVR. Just did not care for the characters, the story line, or the filming style.

Well, season 2 finished Interview With the Vampire, now there’s already a teaser for season 3 starting The Vampire Lestat.
