I can’t tell you how honored I am to have started what has been called the geekiest thread on the Dope. Yay! When my husband saw me this afternoon in my Harry Potter tee-shirt, he told me that I’ve been assimilated into the cult of Harry Potter.
Okay, so:
Kermit the Frog: I’m not sure.
Miss Piggy: Slytherin
Fozzy Bear: Gryffindor
Animal: Hufflepuff
The Swedish Chef: Hufflepuff
Gonzo the Great: Gryffindor
Big Bird: Hufflepuff
Ernie: Hufflepuff
Bert: Slytherin
Cookie Monster: Hufflepuff
Oscar the Grouch: Hufflepuff
Slimy: Gryffindor
Grover: Gryffindor
Prairie Dawn: Ravenclaw
Elmo: Hufflepuff
Arthur: Hufflepuff. I think.
D.W.: Slytherin
The Brain: Ravenclaw
Buster Baxter: Hufflepuff
Muffy: Slytherin
Francine: Gryffindor
My sister and I discussed this much of the afternoon yesterday. We decided that of all the social workers we know, the majority are in Hufflepuff. Thinking of our college professors, they tend to belong to either Ravenclaw or Slytherin, depending. She and I are Ravenclaw; our mother is Ravenclaw; our brother is Slytherin; our stepfather is Slytherin. Our dad and stepmonster are both Hufflepuff. My husband is Gryffindor.
This has really been fun to think of, and it did get us through a very long day!!
Danny? A Slytherin? Have you been eating fermented Cox’s Orange Pippins? He is a Gryffindor all the way! Using trickery and deception doesn’t necessarily conflict with Gryffindorness. Harry and friends do it all the time. The difference, as I see it, is that Gryffindors use devious means to achieve a greater good, while Slytherins are more likely to use devious means for personal gain. Danny and his dad were pheasant poachers, but they were honorable pheasant poachers, gosh darn it!
Radar in Slytherin!!!
I can’t believe anyone would say that. must have been a typo.
Radar was always working for the greater good. He was always the smartest person at the MASH to, but hid that to avoid embarrassing the doctors.
Gryffindor all the way. that is the only house possible for the great Radar!
You raise a fair point, but one of my problems with the books is that the Slytherins are all so awful; I want there to be some decent characters in that house, to justify its continued existence. And Danny shows some braveness, true, but his main schtick is his cleverness in pulling on a scheme for the sheer joy of pulling off a scheme. I think he’s an example of a good Slytherin.
But Radar was so good at being sneaky! His sneakiness was his defining characteristic. If you needed something done or gotten or arranged by backdoor (back tent flap?) means, Radar was your man. Not all Slytherins are evil, after all.
I had no doubt about Radar’s house. The two I had trouble with were Frank Burns and Klinger. I put them in Slytherin and Hufflepuff, respectively, but I think Klinger may be more Gryffindor. Frank I’m still not sure about.
Interesting cross-post there. Dorkie wants to use Danny as an example of a good Slytherin, and I want to use Radar for the same thing.
I agree that the Slytherins are too uniformly awful. Though Snape’s a Slytherin, right? It usually turns out that he’s doing the right thing in the end.
Tiffany Aching: Ravenclaw
Granny Weatherwax: Somebody help me out here.
Nanny Ogg: Expelled on day one for trying to have sex with the Sorting Hat.
Magrat Garlick: Probably Gryffindor.
Agnes Nitt: Hufflepuff.
Perdita X. Dream: Slytherin.
Rincewind: Likely to run away from Sorting Hat. Also probably a Squib. If pressed, I’m pretty sure he’d pick Hufflepuff.
The Luggage: Slytherin.
Vimes: Gryffindor, edged with Slytherin.
Carrot: Gryffindor, edged with Hufflepuff.
Angua: Gryffindor.
Nobby Nobbs: I’m gonna go with Slytherin.
Colon: Too stupid to attend Hogwarts.
People, help me! I know there’s more I can add to this list.
President Carter - Hufflepuff
President Reagan - Hufflepuff
President Bush, Sr. - Gryffindor
President Clinton - Gryffindor
President Bush, Jr. - Slytherin
Babe Ruth, Micky Mantle - Hufflepuff
Ted Williams, Cy Young - Ravenclaw
Joe Jackson, Walter Johnson - Gryffindore
Ty Cobb, The rest of the Chicago Blacksox - Slytherin
sigh I came in this thread to do Star Wars. So i’ll just agree with others on this one.
Anakin Skywalker would have been in Slytherin because he’s so ambitious, though I think he does have quite a bit of Gryffindor in him.
Obi-Wan, like all the other Jedis, would have been in Gryffindor.
Yoda being in Ravenclaw is beyond obvious.
Family wise my mom would be in Ravenclaw, my dad is Hufflepuff, my brother in Gryffindor(or Hufflepuff) and myself in Slytherin. We’re quite the mixed family.
I skimmed over reading your JLA: YEAR ONE lists and somehow didn’t process your rankings for Barry Allen Flash and Aquaman. We’re on the same wavelength, though.
While I understand the temptation to put G’nort in Hufflepuff, I see G’nort as a Gryffindor in the Neville Longbottom mode.
