With the comments here I hadn’t bothered keeping up with anything after the first episode… until these last couple of days. Now I’m caught up.
I have to say I’m liking it.
Not sure if they will pull off bringing it together but my suspicion is that few of these plots will actually be just throw away and I’m curious how they will fit.
There are a lot of excellent characters- Brit, Tech-Jacket, Firebreather and such- that have had their rights sold separately, and so can’t appear in the show. It’s a shame.
My prediction: next season will be 3 groups of 2 episodes (spaced out by several months) and then there will be a final season with 4 groups of 1 episode.
I’ve been watching some episodes of the Japanese show “My Hero Academia” and now I can’t unsee all of the cost-cutting shortcuts they mentioned in that episode of “Invincible” (talking with a hand over the mouth, talking while showing the back of someone’s head, talking over wide shots with no motion, etc.).
I’m overall dissatisfied with season 2. Most of what it actually did was fine, but it barely felt like it told an entire story at all. Too many side plots coming in and out. And lots of just sloppy storytelling.
Like, what happened with the cursed pharoah at the end. OK, he has to possess a man. Solid joke. But then… something happened? Looked like a superhero flying out of the sky and crashing into him? But… that was the end? Was it supposed to be obvious what happened? It certainly wasn’t to me.
And we’d seen so little of Angstrom that the big climax with him just felt like another B plot. Not to mention his fairly ridiculous monologuing. How about you trap Mark in a hell dimension and just, you know, leave him there? Emotionally powerful but just not interesting actions.
And… how did Rex survive? Does he have super strength? Do we know? Does he know? He seemed surprised not to be dead, but then… it was never really mentioned again.
Just finished season 2 and the show is good, but hardly great. I will continue watching next year, but this is not a show I greatly look forward to. Good, though.
I’m enjoying season 3 so far, although I expected they were going to try to recruit the creatures from Omni-Man’s sci-fi novels (like Space Rider/Racer) and they haven’t even mentioned them this season.
