The entire season (or maybe just the first half of it, I’m not sure) just dropped. I’m only a few episodes in and the show is still killing it.
It’s diverging from the comics (which I loved) in interesting ways. I have only watched the first three episodes but I am loving it so far. There’s a short, dialogue free story at the opening of episode three that was just so well done.
Since people watch at different rates, cloud any spoilers but is anyone else watching ?
I watched the first episode last night, and enjoyed it, but I was a little surprised by how much it deviated from the comic. Overall, I think the changes from the comic have been improvements, so I’m happy to watch and see what direction the season takes.
I’m the opposite. I love the realness of the world with all the weird side characters. I think I can only tolerate Omniman’s story bc he has Seth Rogen worm-dude with him
I have only read one Invincible comic but I’m guessing Rex is really dead. So that makes twice this week I’ve cried over a superhero show death, thrice in two weeks.
I think Kirkman learned some good lessons in screenwriting from the Walking Dead. Plus, he’s had quite a few years to reevaluate his original story decisions. Fleshing out Raye and expanding Rex’s character arc has really paid off. I wonder if Rex will get an origin story one-shot like Eve did.
Now that the season’s over: I liked it, but I thought it was strange that season 2 ended with Invincible and Allen learning about a bunch of potential anti-Viltrumite allies and then they did absolutely nothing with that knowledge in season 3. (I don’t know if those potential allies were even mentioned.)
And then they brought back the Martian zombie thing to tease for next season too. I wonder if they were surprised by the popularity and are changing their timeline to drag the story out.
Surprised by the popularity of the Martian zombie thing? That’s been one of the few arcs in the show that I thought has been an utter and complete whiff.
That said, I enjoyed the season overall. The final big fights were great, I’ve enjoyed Mark’s interactions with Oliver and Eve and Cecil, it just continues to be an entertaining show.
