Invincible Season 3

The entire season (or maybe just the first half of it, I’m not sure) just dropped. I’m only a few episodes in and the show is still killing it.

It’s diverging from the comics (which I loved) in interesting ways. I have only watched the first three episodes but I am loving it so far. There’s a short, dialogue free story at the opening of episode three that was just so well done.

Since people watch at different rates, cloud any spoilers but is anyone else watching ?

I watched the first episode last night, and enjoyed it, but I was a little surprised by how much it deviated from the comic. Overall, I think the changes from the comic have been improvements, so I’m happy to watch and see what direction the season takes.

To clarify, it looks like only the first three appeared this week. I didn’t notice the other episodes said “Coming Soon”.

It’s not a Robert Kirkman adaptation if the TV show doesn’t dramatically vary from the comic book.

Spoiler for Episode 3.

Oliver appears to have killed both of the Maulers. Does that mean that they are gone for good? In the past there has always been one left to clone.

Definitely enjoying this season so far. Not too sure about the new suit though.

New ep dropped today. Now weekly I think.

Yeah every Thursday I think. The “scene” after the credits on this one is basically a second episode.

The newest one was rough. I wasn’t sure if they’d go for straight up dead baby and its body, but alas, i was wrong.

Boy do I not care about the side stories, just give me viltrumite shit.

I totally agree. Well, I like the Monster Girl development. It will help that character a lot.

I’m the opposite. I love the realness of the world with all the weird side characters. I think I can only tolerate Omniman’s story bc he has Seth Rogen worm-dude with him

My favourite part of episode 7 was seeing the names of all the Invincibles in the closed captioning:

  • Gogglesible
  • Nogogglesible
  • Invincicape
  • Movincihawk
    etc.

I have only read one Invincible comic but I’m guessing Rex is really dead. So that makes twice this week I’ve cried over a superhero show death, thrice in two weeks.

FWIW the comic is great and worth reading but the show has taken a pretty different direction (a good one in its own right).

I think Kirkman learned some good lessons in screenwriting from the Walking Dead. Plus, he’s had quite a few years to reevaluate his original story decisions. Fleshing out Raye and expanding Rex’s character arc has really paid off. I wonder if Rex will get an origin story one-shot like Eve did.

Depends. He blew up his bones. If his power is “based” out of his brain, he could come back.

(comic book logic, eh?)

Now that the season’s over: I liked it, but I thought it was strange that season 2 ended with Invincible and Allen learning about a bunch of potential anti-Viltrumite allies and then they did absolutely nothing with that knowledge in season 3. (I don’t know if those potential allies were even mentioned.)

And then they brought back the Martian zombie thing to tease for next season too. I wonder if they were surprised by the popularity and are changing their timeline to drag the story out.

Surprised by the popularity of the Martian zombie thing? That’s been one of the few arcs in the show that I thought has been an utter and complete whiff.

That said, I enjoyed the season overall. The final big fights were great, I’ve enjoyed Mark’s interactions with Oliver and Eve and Cecil, it just continues to be an entertaining show.

Surprised by the popularity of the show.

Like they planned for 2 seasons, it was more popular than anticipated so they spent more time on lesser plot lines to drag out more seasons.
