I finally upgraded one of my ipads to ios7 to test drive it, which has resulted in me coming to bitch about it in this thread.
Yes it’s ugly. A combination of Hello Kitty and My Little Pony ugly. I can’t understand why Apple doesn’t offer skins or themes. Even if it takes a wipe and restore to change your theme, it would calm down a whole lotta bitching.
What is worse, I build my class presentations in Keynote, the new version of which has gotten rid of primary colors in the color palette. Now you have a wide selection of browns, beige and taupe. Oh, and there’s also gray.
I made the mistake of trying to edit one of my presentations on the “test drive” ipad and now it won’t open on any of my other devices that are still on IOS6. “Sorry, you need to upgrade to IOS7 to get your documents back. Hahahahah!” I’m pretty sure that’s what the message said. Now I have to rebuild the presentation from scratch on the IOS6 ipad or upgrade it to IOS7.
I hate the new calendar. I can’t seem to read the red on white, and I wish it would default not to the day but to the month. Also, every other scrolling is right-left. Why is this up-down?
As for the iOS in general, is it just my old phone, or is it slower? There seems to be a lag time between touch and action. Not for everything, but for the passcode, and opening a folder of apps, etc.
It’s when the operating system gets upgraded with different and improved (this is subject to debate) features. Does Samsung never update its phones? How odd. I don’t really use Android phones so I did not know this.
For the most part I don’t care with these exceptions:
I don’t like the default font, I find it difficult to read whenever there is anything at all going on in the background, which is too often.
The Control Center is nice in theory but after a month I still find it takes multiple attempts to get it when I want it and yet 5% of the time I’m swiping to unlock it brings it up. Annoying and I’m sure it is all my fault. But still an annoyance that didn’t exist before.
As other apps have redesigned to match the interface I am now getting a glut of line art icons with no explanation of what they mean. That’s not so much Apple’s fault but Apple seems to have somehow inspired it.
I like ios 7 quite a bit, but I completely agree with this complaint. The new calendar is horrible, or, less hyperbolically, not suited to my needs. The old one was fine, and the update really bothers me.
I swapped to Fantastical 2 in the App Store, which is worth a look. Of the calendar apps available, I liked that one the best. Simple and clean, with a nice big list of my upcoming events. I’m surprised that isn’t a more common feature… Is it really that rare to want to see a big list of what you’ve got that day?
