I can’t find anything online as to when the caucuses start in Iowa. Is it a precinct-by-precinct decision, county-by-county or does everyone have to show up at their caucus site at a time set by the state?
It starts at 7 pm central, 8pm EST. What “starting” entails, I don’t know.
You have to show up at the starting time. The Republicans do a straight vote, so there’s will be over in 30 minutes, while the Democrats have a do-se-do-change-your-partner dance that might take two or three hours.
Hehe. Yup. The Dem way seems like it might encourage more “community building, get-to-know-your-neighbors” stuff, but it would seem impractical in a large population density area.
I am the temporary chairman of my caucus (rural township, outside the three town precincts). All bow to my might power. Resistance if futile. I have the handbook, by God.
We are supposed to open the doors at 6:30, CST, but cannot divide until 7:00. This is the Democratic Caucus. There is an awful lot of balderdash to go through before we actually get down to playing musical chairs. Once the divisions are made we get to strongarm three of our fellows to be delegates to the county convention (an exercise in small time BS if there ever was one). Once that is done we get to draft and debate platform planks. It will be a grand old time all around.
I hope to phone in the caucus results by 7:30, but I’m not very sanguine about that. I suppose we will still be screwing around after 10:00. If we’re lucky someone will bring cookies.
I’m told that the general evacuation from the Des Moines airport on Friday morning will be a sight to behold. Something like 2000 rental cars will be turned in there. We can only hope that Airport Security people are as officious and pig headed as usual. Just think about three or four thousand New York and Los Angeles TV types padding around in their stocking feet, surrendering their hair jell and just generally being jacked around. Good riddance to them all.
Amen… I might track some snow into the security lines to give them all wet feet.
