iPad not responding to touch input but otherwise working

Hi folks,

I have an iPad 3, running IOS 9. Up until this morning it was working fine, but now it has an odd issue. It appears that the touchscreen isn’t responding to input.

From the locked, “screen off” state, I can press the physical Home button, and the lock screen comes up as you’d expect, but swiping the “slide to unlock” slider does nothing. It’s as f it’s not recognising the input. Likewise the camera icon, in the bottom right, which should activate the camera from the lock screen fails to respond. Pressing and holding the physical power button brings up the “slide to power off” slider and associated cancel button, neither of which respond to input. This all shows that the physical buttons are working, but the touchscreen is not.

I know the OS is working to some extent, because the iPad is bleeping to announce incoming emails, and calendar events are appearing on the lock screen as normal. It’s as if the whole iPad is working except the touch input.

I’d try rebooting it, but you need to be able to swipe the slider to turn it off. I’m not aware of a hard reset that can be invoked only using the physical buttons. Sadly the battery is near full so waiting for it to run out will take days.

Has anyone encountered this? Does anyone know of a way to reboot the iPad without using the touchscreen at all? Can a touchscreen fail in this way while leaving the core functionality of the device intact?

Thanks and kind regards,

Rich

Hold down the home and power buttons for like 10-15 seconds and it’ll do a hard reset

Thanks, that seems to have fixed it
