IRL: the 'new' alternative to online dating.

frankly, i’m just burned out on it. online dating, that is.

anyone have any interesting (but common  ) places they met someone they dated?

Hmmm…if you’re ever in Denver I’m sure we could look around for some places.

Bad luck? It took me over a month to start getting serious replies on my profile. I made a post about it which is huge now, lots of great suggestions.

The first date I went on that I met online (which was last Sunday, by the way), was in San Francisco. We basically took a walk across the Golden Gate bridge, checked out the information center with touristy folks, ate cookies, enjoyed a beautiful day, watched a helicopter fly under the bridge right below us  (which was frickin’ awesome) and also walked around a bit at Fisherman’s Wharf and Golden Gate park. So a tour of San Francisco, I guess you could say. After we were tired of walking, I took her out to eat at the Cheescake factory, and since she mentioned she really likes ice cream, took her out for ice cream.

Going out for a walk is a nice, cheap activity. Good excersize (though I ought to do it more…my calves were killing me the next day! ) isn’t super-committal (“You’re cancelling? But I bought the $100 Opera tickets and everything!”) and is something low-key.

When I take a woman out, I do it because I am interested in meeting them and spending leisure time with them. I could have a huge crush, I could be moderately attracted. However, I am not about to do anything to scare off the woman like act stalkerish or clingy. Agreeing to go for a walk isn’t a marraige proposal, and I tend to offer up public places to walk so that the woman feels safe in case she’s worried I’m some kind of psycho or something. My best friend take walks, and we’re as platonic as two straight male buddies can get, so when I ask a woman to go out stroll for me I’m not trying to get into her pants or anything

I know a lot of people say ‘go out for coffee’ but all the coffee places I’ve been to were far too noisy for my liking. I enjoy having conversations with people, and I’ll lose my voice really quickly if I have to raise it to the point of being audible above all the ambient noise.
