My previous post asking for advice on okcupid has exploded into an online dating advice column of sorts. That’s fantastic; it’s great to see so many people on the SDMB coming forward to ask for feedback. I don’t want to hijack that thread, however so I decided to make a new online dating thread for 2005, to talk about everyone’s experiences so far. I know a lot of people have been busy updating their profiles, and I’m confident that their efforts will show some results after enough persistence and patience. That said, how is everybody doing in the online dating department?
I’m very excited to say that thanks in no small part to the SDMB community, I have been updating and improving my profile as well as the quality of my messages on okcupid. The two most recent messages I sent to profiles got replies, and both of them were very positive, particularly commenting on how I was able to sound intelligent without coming off as pretentious, and in general every aspect of this whole process I’ve been trying to improve on is showing improvement and promise.
One of the replies expressed a definite interest in meeting me, and even suggested some things to do. We agreed to go on a walk across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, explore a bit and eat dinner before I drop her off back at her apartment. We also talked on the phone for a lengthly amount of time today, and I’m really excited about meeting her tomorrow. There are two little hangups; work and the weather. Today I work I talked a coworker into covering for me tomorrow, that way I can meet up with her earlier and we will have more hours of daylight to spend. As for the weather, well, I can only hope San Francisco gets a nice clear day in January. The past couple of days have been rather cold but only semi-overcast/clear around here and I’m really hoping it will be clear enough to watch the sun set over the water while standing on the bridge
