Is a southern accent sexy?

Millions of people are apparently wrong, then.

They pronounce it that way in (parts of) New Zealand; maybe Australia, too.

I can only comment on my personal experience. When dating women outside of the south, my Texas accent almost never failed. It was warmly welcomed in the UK and other parts of Europe.

Not even a little bit.

I was going to say hell to the no but there’s one exception I can think of. Peter Sarsgaard plays a southern lawyer in the film The Skeleton Key and for some reason I find it very sexy. Aside from that, I’d rather hear US accents that are as close to “neutral” as possible.

Sexy on Daisy Duke, perhaps. But for the majority of average folk, a southern accent generally impresses me as sounding ignorant.

Doesn’t EVERYONE have an accent?

I find it strange that people find accents sexy or not sexy. I find *people *sexy or not sexy and the right person can make any accent sound hot. Or not. Is a German accent sexy? Listen to Angela Merkel and then Marlene Dietrich, for example, and tell me your conclusion.

The werd is “Ignernt”, thank yew.

As a southerner by birth and by raising, I appreciate a good, non-redneck southern accent. Southern coastal is my favorite, very refined and laid back. As much as I hate a “Joisey” accent I’ll take it any day over a nasally Wisconsin accent. Ugh ::shudders::.

Southern accents don’t do it for me. My mean grandma was from Alabama and she sounded just like Karl Childers from Sling Blade. I’ll always associate a southern accent with her, as well as with Paula Deen, as mentioned upthread.

Accents I do like are Scottish, posh English, and French.

Simple enough, neither of them sound sexy.
