What country has the sexiest accent?

You can travel almost anywhere and end up in an isolated hostel - there always seems to be an Australian there yelling out “Aussie Aussie Aussie” in an accent women often find endearing. I’m more partial to women speaking French or drawling accents from southern US states.

Which accents could you listen to forever? Which ones rub you the wrong way?

Two that I can barely stand to hear are French and Tagalog. I know I shouldn’t feel that way, but there it is. The only thing I dislike about Australian speech is the rising tone at the end of every utterence, making each and every one sound like a question.

I do find the Tokyo accent of Japanese sexy.

I can’t decide about a sexiest accent, but my favorite accent is Australian. I think the most beautiful sounding language is Italian.

Brazilian Portuguese. It has the silky vague vowels of French and the musical cadence of Italian.

I think some English, Scottish, and Irish accents are quite lovely. Some are not.

As for rubbing me the wrong way, I generally find men speaking English with French or Italian accents unpleasant to listen to.

Scotland, hands down. Sean Connery. I’d pay dearly to have his voice answer my Siri queries or read my Google maps directions. Apple needs to up their game.

Benedict Cumberbatch is the 2nd runner up, so England.

Patrick Stewart is the1st runner up. His Picard accent. His full Yorkshire accent is beyond my ken.

I realize that all of those could be considered from the same country so parse that however is appropriate.

I think French women have the sexiest accent. I had a female professor that was Greek in Ethnicity but with a French accent in college, my god I could barely contain myself.

In my experience, just about any accent can be sexy and just about any accent ugly. All depends on the person speaking it.

That asinine “Make it so” command that was beaten to death over and over and over and over on ST:TNG ruined that accent for me. Whenever I hear it, all I can hear is that stupid three-word inanity.

To this day, when people find out I majored in linguistics, so many insist on informing me “French is the perfect language for romance”. I always respond with, “I would’ve thought that honor fell to Chinese”.

This. Italians from the south and north sound different. Some southerners tend to talk slower. And Venetians are in a class all of their own.

In general, Italian is wonderful to listen to, and it’s a very emotional language. But I won’t complain if I have to listen to Benedict Cumberbatch all day.

Xhosa click-singing has quite an effect on Sandi Toksvig: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baEiWB2aM9Y&feature=youtu.be&t=80

Italian, with French as a VERY close second.

I’m fond of most of the accents from the British Isles, but especially of Irish accents.

I also like some but not all Japanese accents, but I don’t know enough about Japanese to know which ones it is that I like, and it might just be a matter of the specific people speaking the accents.

I love hearing Scottish & Irish accents. Least favorite would be Indian.

The South African accent is pretty sexy IMO.

None of the Ozzies I know have done this. Maybe it is regional or an age thing. Plenty of Americans do this.

I like to hear Australian and French accents, if it’s the right person. I like the Science Vs. podcast hosted by an American woman who grew up in Australia. I have the voice for Google Maps navigation to set an Australian woman

There are accents from certain parts of India and Pakistan that put me off (I couldn’t really tell you which regions, but I find a lot of variability in Indian accents). There is a woman who used to cover education for our local public radio station who is Indian and sounds like she may have gone to school in England. The blend of the accents combined with how she overenunciates everything means I turn to another station when she comes up. (During a pledge drive, one of the station staff was on saying how he could just listen to her talk all day. So, de gustibus…)

I am thinking that Americans’ preference for certain accents is a kind of bias towards White Europe, as is seen the posts so far (and my own) and this kind of conversation dances on the edge of racism.

Mexico. A Mexican woman could be talking about putting up tile in her bathroom, and it would sound like Liquid Sex.

My bro is purebred American. Back around age 40 he taught himself a passable Aussie accent and his success w the women just exploded. Apparently that stuff sells well to the ladies.

I really don’t care for Aussie on men or women; it sounds like working too hard at enunciating all the wrong vowels.

I could listen to women speaking Quebec French all day long. The men not so much. Some of the Caribbean island accents are fantastic too.

A beautiful woman speaking with just about any accent other than Brooklynese is going to sound sexy, but if I’m limited to hearing and not seeing, my favorites, in order, are French, British RP and Irish.

I like most Scottish and Irish accents. I like the South African accent, too. The languages I dislike hearing the most are French and Russian. French sounds, I dunno, distorted to me. And Russians always sound angry to me. I don’t care for the French accent in English, either, but don’t mind Russian-accented English.

I enjoy listening to most other foreign languages, but nothing sounds really “sexy” or even attractive to me unless I understand the words, so only accents of English speakers can make it into that bucket.
