Is AHunter3 another Small Equine of Limited Repertoire?

I was browsing pit threads and read someone’s evaluation of a poster as a one-trick pony, and since this was shortly after I had posted in a thread in which one of my hot-button topics had come up, and it crossed my mind, “Hey, self, you do realize that you’re always all over that particular topic like fright on lice, more so than any other, and since you’re there with an attitude not widely shared by others who feel the need to jump in and say so, someone could be thinking that about you.”

Well, let’s have it. Am I a one-trick pony? Check what you think applies, and/or elaborate if you see fit –

Yeah, absolutely. I see your name I think of one topic, and if I’m in a thread and that topic comes up, I know your name will too, like syrup of Ipecac.

Naah, not at all. You are erudite and knowledgeable, you give accurate factual answers, and you voice thought-provoking opinions on many subjects.

Naah, not at all. Your humorless posts show up in many places as you attention-seek your way through the board trying to provoke people with your deliberately overstated & unsupportable positions.

I don’t think so, in fact I never noticed you at all. I guess you must post, but they must be really forgettable posts. Must be in forums I don’t go to.

You know, self, this sounds like I’ve started caring what people here think of me. This is…umm, unsettling. It is dangerous to worry much about what other people think of you and you should be very stingy about who in the world you’d allow to have such an effect on you. ::seriously considers clicking the ‘close window’ box:: Naah, letting them know you’ve started caring what they think doesn’t make it noticeably worse. It’s the caring part that can do you in.

I don’t know what your trick is - that is to say I don’t associate you with any particular topic - so I would not consider you a One-Trick-Pony.

I think if you spend enough time on this board and you aren’t forever doing drive-by postings, there are certain topics you’ll frequent more than others. In a baseball thread, for example, I know that if it gets to a secomd page I’ll see RickJay, Jonathan Chance, Zev, Neurotik, Chaim and probably myself more than once. That’s just threads we all seem to enjoy.

When your posting is fanatic and you are unable or unwilling (or just plain don’t care) to see someone’s point of view, THEN in my view you become a one-trick pony. I don’t think that’s something I’d ascribe to you or to many other people either. But then I also don’t think that predictability regarding thread topics is necessarily a bad thing. I mean, if there’s a thread on some aspect of religion, I can be pretty sure that RT and Polycarp will have something to say, but I’d surely not put them on my list of 1-trick ponies:D

When I’m in a thread and “that” topic comes up, I always think to myself “Gee, I can’t wait until AHunter3 shows up and explains everything.” Sometimes I call for you explicitly. 'Cause frankly you have more knowledge of that topic in your pinky than most people will ever have in their whole lives.

It’s no shame being a subject specialist, you know. Collounsbury and Tamerlane, to take two examples, are known for being associated with specific topics, and they are damn good at it. It’s known that when they show up, they always deliver the goods.

I consider you in the same Doper Olympus as those luminaries when it comes to your favorite topic, AH3.

I definitely like it when there’s a linguistic thread and people start calling for Jomo Mojo. Being typecast isn’t bad at all when you’ve earned a rep with your intellect.

By the way, my sister was in the audience in a Paul Simon concert scene during the filming of One-Trick Pony.

I will attest to the fact that you’ve got at least three tricks in you on a good day.

Well, I checked the boxes but when I scrolled down it got all weird and stuff so I guess I’ll have to start typing.

Frankly I had to do a search on your recent posts to find out whether you had at least one specific trick. No offense intended (yeah, yeah, I’ve seen that Pit thread), but I couldn’t link you name to a specific topic, even though I knew I’d seen it often. I guess that already nails you as not having a limited repertoire. For a moment I thought you were one of decidedly conservative/Republican persuasion, but now I’m convinced I was confusing you at that point with AKennett.

I saw you were an anarchist and you use far too many emulators. I re-read your post in the Future of Socialist politics in the U.S., which I already liked the first time, being a well-informed and thought-provoking post.

I think I may in the past have confused you wrongly with **AKennett ** (who I believe to be an excellent poster as well, but with a different political view), which accounted for me having read quite a few posts of you in political GD threads without having a clear view of your standpoint. In those threads I seem to recall that you add good points to the discussion, even though you’re not one to put in the definite posts that ends the debate (if such a post is made).Outside GD it is similar: your posts do at times give me a chuckle or even a good laugh. When I encounter one in a thread, I do give it serious attention.

You do not seem to be one of those flamboyant posters who are everywhere and recognized universally. But that’s certainly not a problem, there are many posters who make solid contributions to the board without standing out in particular manner. I for one would miss your contribution in GD.

Does that answer your question?

I don’t know if you’re a one-trick pony or not, but whenever I see your username I think of the Betjeman poem A Subaltern’s Love Song.
