See the bawdy juggler! Watch the pirate ship! Buy shiny pointy things! Buy really really expensive shiny pointy things!
Arr, I’ll be there with me guild (at least for this weekend). I be the cute, shy, well-armed (broke) one. We shall be singin’ and drinkin’ and carousin’ far inta the night.
Well, I’ll be doin’ one of those anyhow.
Come by our site, ‘tis the second when ye come in, next t’ Hobby Horse. Ask fer Kitty O’Connor (that be me) and be not surprised when I turn as red as me bodice.
Arrrgh!
I’ve recognized the need for a pirate fair, so I’m glad to see one going. It’s too far away, for me, though. Well, maybe, I’ll ask the wife.
Is this connected in any way to Southern CA Ren Faire (or whatever it’s called now)?
Hijack: How does one go about organizing such a thing? (I’m thinking it could be a money maker.)
Yarr, I don’t know about organizing one, but some other people having been talking. There was a Pirate Faire in Bakersfield (I think) earlier this year. ('twas Queen Bess & the Pirates, if ye be wanting to look it up)
Southern Faire was with… um… I dunno, we don’t go because its more of a party faire than we like. Ojai Faire is through Gold Coast Festivals. And it’s really nice because it’s right on the lake, so it’s cool, and it’s actually on grass rather than hay and dirt.
SCRF (Southern Faire) is run by REC, or Renaissance Entertainment Corporation. If Gold Coast Festivals knows what’s good for itself, they’ll avoid any relation with REC.
I went to one of their first Pirate Festivals - might have even been the first one - held at one of the Ventura beaches back around maybe '96 - it was great! The follow-up year was kind of a let-down, though. Having it right there on the beach really added atmosphere. Wish I could visit and hit a festival again.
I have no interest in such an event but I know the venue. It’s fairly close to where I live. I was there a couple of months ago for a concert festival. Anyway, it’s a real nice place with grass and picnic tables and plenty of shade if it gets too hot. The parking set-up is convenient too.
Do you know if they have lockers or something similar? I’d like to ride down and stash my gear someplace. Black leather jacket does not exactly scream “Pirate!”
Alternatively, if some friendly doper is going to be attending and wouldn’t mind me borrowing their trunk for a little while… I would be amenable to buying a round at Elsie’s, for instance.
There’s no lockers, but if you ask, I can safeguard it for you. It’s a good bunch of people and things don’t disappear.
Err… now that I think about it, I’m not certain we’re going to have a site in Faire. We didn’t last year… I’ll check my email at lunch to make sure (I, uh, download it and then don’t read it) and PM you. Even if we don’t, I can stash it in my tent if you ask nice.
Actually, I be singin’ (and flirtin’). And wishin’ I could buy more shiny pointy things. (Fer those that be interested, here be a pic of me at Ojai Faire in 2005. Me chemise has changed, and I not be armed, but tis a fair likeness)
