Just got back from the San DiegDopeFest, and had a blast. Loved meeting everyone, especially SisterCoyote, but something was mentioned that I definitely want to follow up on.
Several people talked about visiting the Southern California Renaissance Faire, in San Bernardino, California. Well, why not make it a Doper Faire? What would people say to setting a date to get together and explore the Faire?
For information about the Faire, feel free to look it up at their site. Here’s a synopsis:
Faire runs Saturdays and Sundays from May 4th through June 16th, as well as Memorial Day. It runs from 10AM through 6PM. Tickets at the gate are $17.50 for adults, and parking is $7.00. If we get this organized quickly enough we can get tickets for $13.50 before April 19th, or for $14.50 afterwards.
Looking at my calendar, and picking a couple of possible dates jkusters and I are available, I’d start by suggesting either Saturday May 11th, or Saturday June 8th. How do either of those sounds as a starting point?
Well, I can’t commit right at this moment (because I may have a new job in a few days that will have me working on Saturdays), but put me on the maybe list. Otherwise, I’ll be at Faire on a Sunday instead.
From a Doper who’s done a Dope Fest at Ren Fest, they can be a lot of fun, but you also can lose a lot of people! Still, most definitely worth the time. Wish I could be out there to enjoy this one. I love DopeFests, I love Ren Fests, and I’m jonsing for a little of both right about now.

True Pisces, do you suppose there would be enough interest in our neck of the woods to organize something Dope at the NY RenFaire this summer? It’s only a 30 minute drive from my house!
That would be pretty neat. DopeFests and RenFaires are two of my favorite community things.
Woo!! I used to go to the NY Rennaisance Fair back when I lived in New Windsor. Still have two mugs I bought there that I’m very much surprised survived all these years. I could be enticed to come down to NY for that!
Count me as interested; I haven’t been to one since, oh, 1989. Can’t wait to see, ahhh, certain female Dopers in the bodices they discussed last night.
Any day you guys pick sounds pretty damn good to me. Since I’m kinda working there and all, I’ll be available to harrass y’all whenever you decide to make the trip out.

SisterCoyote (or would that be BrotherCoyote under certain circumstances…?): But the codpiece would clash with my William Tyndale outfit (compete with copy of Tyndale’s New Testament and genuine Oxford gown and robe)! Guess I’ll just have to keep my mouth shut at critical junctures…
Oooh me too me too!! I’m up for just about any weekend, as long as I know well in advance so’s I can get a day off work, a ride, etc. I promise to wear very little and bring my massive djembe!
