It's RenFaire season

Some people at the last DopeFest expressed interest in knowing when Faire was, but I don’t remember who, so…

Here’s my Faire schedule
May 10-11, Ojai RenFaire
July 19-20, San Luis Obispo Faire (links are at the very bottom and it insists on opening them in a new window/tab  )
September 20-21 & 26-27 Ojai Pirate Faire

I’ll be with the SLO Peasant Guild, aka the Rusty Nail at Pirate Faire, all those times. Just ask for Kitty O’Conner. Or look for the girl with the cat-ears on her hat. At SLO Faire, we’re the hospitality guild (we have cheap booze and free water & lemonade for participants) and so we’re right by the gate. We might be moving for the Ojai Faires so I’m not going to risk giving wrong directions.

What Faires are happening near you?

Around here, Renfaires don’t get going until the end of the Summer. That’s when King Richard’s Faire in Massachusetts and the Connecticut Rennaissance Faire get going. During the summer, though, we sometimes get really small micro-Faires, like at Hammond Castle, or the Pirate Faire in Salem.

I like RebnFaires myself. Unusual goods, exotic performances, and a ripe blossoming of bolstered, exposed bosoms.

For the ChiDopers and anyone else in Illinois/Indiana/Wisconsin, Bristol Rennaissance Faire near Kenosha opens July 5th. I’m not working it this year (haven’t worked it in several years, actually) but I’ll be up there at least a couple of times.

The Texas Renaissance Festival runs through October & November. It’s a large & well-run enterprise.

But I haven’t been in years. Used to go with my Mom–but she’s no longer with us. Neither is my favorite musician…

The first one I went to (1989) was in Atlanta in the late spring, but they’re in Charlotte around October-November.

They set up a trebuchet to launch jack o’ lanterns. It’s fun.

I’ve been to Scarborough down in Waxahachie two days so far. I like to go early in the season, before it gets so miserably hot down here (although it snowed on us at opening weekend last year). I don’t perform, or even make any great effort in terms of garb, but I do carry a gryphlet shoulder puppet with which to entertain children and confuse drunken adults.

I’ll be taking a road trip down to the Maryland Faire this labor day weekend. It should be fun. A friend of mine used to work there, and when I worked with her at King Richard’s last season we all decided to take this trip.

I need a new bodice but I REALLY can’t afford one. Ugh.

Are there any faires in the Portland, OR region?

Quick googling comes up with:

I didn’t get to go to KC RenFest last year due to being poor.

I’m going this year if I have to rob a convenience store to do it. And I shall be a Viking peasant chick.

I might make it this Saturday at Lake Irwindale in East LA.

Please post your mugshot. I want to see a Viking peasant chick with a surly scowl holding one of those police nametags.

Post a picture now. I just want to see a Viking peasant chick with a surly scowl!

Are there any in upstate NY? I generally go to the ones downstate, but I dunno, it might be nice to have one close by.

I’m not really sure what’s considered “upstate”, but NY has a whole lot of small ren faires and festivals, aside from the huge REC one in Sterling.

Check out this page for a listing of faires by state. (Note the date, though - there are still some listings from 2007.)

Thank you!
