Over the last week or so, Yahoo IM has seemed real wonky to me – I’ll be sitting there and notice this person or that is signing in/out/in/out; or I’ll be hanging out, thinking I’m logged in, get an email saying “bummer, was hoping to chat, catch ya later” – and realize that not a single name is lit up on my list, and, yup, I need to reboot the whole machine (not just leave Yahoo IM and go back in) to get on with them.
What client are you or your friends using? Yahoo recently changed something in their software yet again to confound third-party clients like Trillian. If either one of you is using Trillian or the like, that could be your problem right there.
Been happening to me too. Ever since they upgraded the email, I think. It was really bad the past couple of days, but today it hasn’t happened to me once. I was thinking it was fighting with the complany firewall, but the guy who sits next to me has had no trouble with it.
My ISP is MSN; will have to check with the people who are having problems to see what they’re using. Thanks for the tip – any ideas about how to get around it if they are using Trillian?
Other than using the actual Yahoo IM client, not much until Trillian and the like figure out what Yahoo did and change their clients accordingly. The story was on Slashdot last week, so you might want to go take a look through their archives.
