Is anyone getting weird mail at their SDMB e-mail ?

I’m thinking this has nothing to do with the SDMB, either in its present incarnation or the temp board. I got a bunch of these this morning to BOTH of my hotmail accounts… one of my hotmail acounts has never been used at the SDMB at all, yet that account got more of these than my Astroboy account got.

I haven’t gotten any more in the several hours since I checked my accounts this AM.

Thanks, Lynn.

Just for the record: My daughter’s registration on the board was lost in the hack, but the address she was getting this spam on was not her SDMB address and she never registered at the temp board.

It’s probably not neopets related, either, as I didn’t get any of these messages at the account I use there, which is different from here.

So this is some sort of computer screwup of some type that’s gone out to a ton of people, right? Not just the SDMB-ers.

I shudder to think how big and bad this is.

Oh thank god! I thought I signed up for something by accident!

 I started that thread!

Now I feel the need to apologize to any of you that were hit by the spam, because if what I posted as a lark and something fun to do caused harm to any of you, then I’m very sorry. :frowning:

It may be only tangentially related, but I would just like to let you all know that I’m very sorry… I didn’t know that people would spam this board just because they were tired of hearing about it on the anonymous message server.

If I get banned for this, I’ll understand. (I’m not banned yet, but you never know) Again, I offer my most humble and abject apologies.

Leslie

FWIW I haven’t received any emails like this. I signed up to SDMB shortly before it went down and my account was lost and I had to start a new account after it came back. I also signed up at the temporary board.

<3 Lynn.

I was lucky. My address has been public for the last few months, but this reminds me, I need to go make it private, or change it to something like “the_reciever@goatse.cx” or just SOMETHING to ensure I won’t get this crap.

Leslie, I didn’t even open that thread, nor did my son. Don’t feel too bad about something which seems quite unlikely to be the cause of this incident.

FYI - I doubt it you (that website) because I used that website and I didn’t get any of the fun mail everyone else is talking about. I even did some SDMB messages like everyone else.

Yes, I did read the whole thread before replying. I was going to do it this morning, but didn’t have much time to read the whole thread, then reply.

Then again, I’d have no control over what people who got messages from that server about the SDMB and got cheesed off about it would put! But you never know what people on this board may think, so that was why I posted what I did.

reprise, I may have been taking things too seriously, but you never know. Thanks for your reply; after posting that, I felt better about it. You know how things can get stuck in your head, and you blame yourself for them…but now I feel even better than before. Thanks again.

Well, to add more data to what’s gathered already:

I haven’t been hit by this spam, at any of my five e-mail address. (One made for spam/lists, which is the one I use here, two school related, one personal, one just as a relay.)

So, if it was harvested from here, they did a pretty poor job of it. They also did a pretty poor job of harvesting in general: my Hotmail account gets hit with a lot of… er… excrement, so I’m surprised that I didn’t get any.

Has everyone made sure their browser isn’t sending their e-mail address to whatever website/ftp server requests it? (If I can find it, I’ll dig up a site that’ll let ya know what information your browser is sending out to the world.)

<< Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam… >>

I got 28 e-mails related to this. The largest # of e-mails I have ever had, in a 1 day period, I might add.

I almost never get spam, except for the jerks trying to get me to borrow money, or the occasional porn/spam.

I was not registered on the Temp SDMB–I spent my “downtime” at the FFF.

If I have blocked e-mails from any Dopers, please accept my apologies.

Well, it seems I’ve been lucky so far. My email address has been public on the SDMB (and FFF) since I signed up and I haven’t gotten anything more than the “usual” spam. I did start a new email account for the temp board that I never used after I got the comfirmation on my sign up, but I forgot the password and haven’t checked it in a long time.

SIXTY or so of these damn things - all turning up the same day a couple of days back, to my email address that’s public on SDMB. But nothing to the other email addresses I use.

Hmmmmmm.

Actually, have any of you actually had a listen to the group? (Raraavis and the Fog Horns) .

They’re musical style is perfectly complimented by they’re virtuoso performances. They’re uniting of vidoe and music for a whole CD/DVD would be unique to anyone but especially so for comparative unknowns. The other half of the Flugel Horns, Kristi, Brandi and Honni are also easey “on the eye” and that can’t hurt.

Take a walk on the easy side and play the rabbitavis cd next time you’re lady comes over, and sink into the pleasure machine, with pictures throughout, that is the sensational

Rara Avis and the fog Horns!!

I’ll be sending everyone who posted in this thread an email with contact details. You won’t mind, will you…?

Lynn, thanks; I was swamped by a mass of these messages, but couldn’t work out where to start fighting them.

I got about 12 or 13 of them, starting with the badrats auto-responder, then the newsletter itself and then the confused folks and the out-of-office responders started in. I sent an unsub to newsletter-unsubscribe@raraavisband.com, which seemed to work. I haven’t had any since then, 3:55 pm eastern, Saturday.

I have a public e-mail here, and used the same address at the temp boards.

37 emails for me, only one my Screen name I used to register with SDMB. I am not registered with any other board or list (I registered at the temp. board with my new SN) and usually only get occasional porn spam. Not today however!
I felt so loved until I found out what it really was! Dadburnit!

Just one more data point.

I got about 10 of these emails at my old SDMB address that I haven’t used here since last November. I used to use an email.com addy, but they stopped auto-forwarding for free, so back in December I changed my email address here. Note that I only used the old email addy only at the SDMB and never anywhere else, and it was public.
