No way. For twenty years I had to go to work at a mall. From now until sometime next year I will go to the mall once. midweek after work.
Absolutely. It’s a Thanksgiving tradition. We’ll be knee deep by 4:01.
Circuit City has a few things I want this year, but I haven’t picked my starting point yet.
I say this having worked at Best Buy on Black Friday. Words can’t describe the sinking feeling you get when you pull into work at 3am and there’s a line wrapped twice around the building. For 2x pay that day, it was worth it.
I’m giving a couple hundred bucks to my sister on Thanksgiving; she treats the 4AM Friday shopping as some sort of gift of the gods. So I’ll be there by proxy. Does that count?
Nope. I’ll do what I did last year: buy it on the Internet and pick it up at the store later on.
I did two years ago because my roommates at the time had to go for the deals. I brought along my notebook and sharpie marker (out of habit these things are often on me) and wrote a sign for the 100+ people in line outside Best Buy. “You’re all F@#*ing Crazy”. A mall cop took it away from me.
I bought a newspaper. And lost my roommates in the crowd. I had to walk home.
There is of course no Thanksgiving here, and therefore no Black Friday, but if by some miracle I am transported to the US for the holiday, then my answer would have to be HELL NO. There is nothing in the world that would be worth that insanity.
As it is, I have off Fridays this term and I will be going to our big local mall this week - because the gym I belong to is in the mall. While I’m there I may very well do some Christmas shopping. (There is after all a reason management likes having the gym there.) And since we’ll be celebrating our Thanksgiving on Saturday chances are very good I’ll be stopping by a supermarket as well. But if we had a Black Friday here? I’d skip the gym and go for a long walk instead.
I may not hit the mall until January.
After working in retail for years, all of those requiring me to work insane hours during the holiday season…all I can say is HELL NO.
Besides, you can get the same deals if you wait a couple weeks.
Wait, so the Black Friday sales are occasionally also available on the net? Sweet!
Wow, I thought that the 4 am thing was a sort of cruel joke, then I saw some ads for this last night on TV. I’m worried for our society.
I’m going shopping at 12:00 AM on Friday. More stores should offer their big sales at Midnight. Midnight is so much cooler than 4:00 AM.
Nope. There is nothing about that scenario that interests me.
I have worked every Black Friday at Target since 1984, and I will be working 9+ hours this year. Actually, I usually find working Black Friday fun, just because it is so busy that you can’t think, and I hate boredom.
No, and I never have, but that’s not to say I never would. This just isn’t the year.
My shopping plan this year is to hold down the budget (for real this time!) and do most of it online. I’m about ready to get started, but I want to hold off till after Thanksgiving in case the family decides to do anything different this year. I think it would be cool if we all bought stuff for each other, but had a five dollar limit. However, these kind of bright ideas haven’t worked out in the past.
More than half my shopping is already done and wrapped and nestled in a box with the designated family’s name on it.
The rest of my shopping will be done at Toys Backward R Us and Ulta, and it doesn’t matter when I go.
I’m not spending one freaking dime, except maybe for some beer.
I will be shopping Friday, with my mom, but we’re not hitting the “before daylight” sales. I actually enjoy the energy of Black Friday (once the insane “be there when the doors open while people stomp and shove each other” part is over.) People are usually pretty happy and friendly later in the day. And I expect to finish my shopping Friday, as well, since I’m only buying for the kids. The teens will get ca$h.
Hell to the no. Never done it, never will.
I always have to work that day, so there wouldn’t be any point.
I will be one of the sales associates working that evening. So basically, HELL NO I will not be out there in the morning. Cleaning up after the stampede is going to be miserable; I see no reason to spend a second more than I have to in that jungle.
