Well, I won’t. And normally, my hubby wouldn’t, either, but. . .
I took my wedding/engagement rings in last week to have them re-sized, and while I was there, I asked the jeweler (whom I have known for years) if she had any Tanzanite bracelets in stock. Hubby bought me a Tanzanite pendant for Christmas about four years ago (maybe five?), and a Tanzanite ring year before last. Now he’s convinced I need a bracelet to go with it. But Tanzanite, much as I love it (it’s my fave stone), is become harder and harder to find, and more and more expensive.
Anyway, the jeweler said no, she didn’t, but she would have a couple in on Black Friday, and they would be 70% to 80% off regular price. I told my hubby about this, and I believe he may be considering going to that jewelry store. To look for a bracelet for me.
Dear god no. Never, ever ever. I don’t even like to go out in my car on Black Friday - it’s really hard to avoid the ridiculous traffic around here. I’m going sailing instead.
My sister works for a well-known discount clothing retailer, and her management is not only sending her out to one of their stores to check out how things are going on Black Friday, but they’re also sending her to a competitor’s store to see how they’re doing.
The day, traditionally (or allegedly), that retailers get into “the black.” They sell a shitload of stuff at sale prices. This year, most should be pretty desperate to move stock.
I have almost all of my Christmas shopping done already.
That kind of shopping would totally freak me out.
I don’t think I’ve ever been shopping on Black Friday. That day, for me, is for having a Christmas martini and feeling excellent because my decorations are up and my shopping is done.
Uh, uh…no way. We’re usually en route from Indy, anyway, but…no effing way! It does bring back good childhood memories, though. The Friday after Thanksgiving, we’d load up the Checker station wagon (later, the Vanagon,) sometimes with Grandparents, even, and head on down to St. Louis to shop at the St. Louis Center. It used to be glorious! Huge cardinals and Christmas ornaments hanging from the glass ceilings. It was beautiful. Union Station, too. Unfortunately, St. Louis Center is pretty much out of it these day. I’m not even sure if there are retailers there anymore. It’s a real shame.
And only then if I saw a huge amount of soccer moms standing there in strict military order ready to pounce.
This has to be scarier than being in Iraq. I actually had to do this once at around 3:00 am with my ex wife during the Furby craze.
The looks on some of these women would scare the hell out of any battle tested Iraqi or American soldier.
I’m going with my SIL and her friend, who are both grizzled veterans of Black Friday madness. We will be hitting the Citadel Outlets- the first store they want to get into opens at 10:00 pm Thanksgiving night. If this year is true to form, we will finish up about 6:00 am or so. SIL says things move more quickly once the moms pushing kids in strollers clear out around 3:00 am.
I’m going to Sears in the morning. I’ve needed a big toolchest for a while now, and they have a nice rolling combo for $99, which is half off the regular price. I keep all of my tools in a little plastic toolbox now, and it’s far too disorganized. Plus, all of my power tools are scattered around the garage. It will be great to have everything in one place!
I stood outside of Best Buy in the cold last year from 2:00 in morning, for a freaking Wii my SO had to have, that I didn’t get because I was too far back in the line. Folks had pitched tents and Sterno fires going. It was surreal. Never again. I don’t need anything that badly.
And anyway, prices are only going to go down as the holiday season progresses, so waiting a few weeks makes sense, especially this year.
