…Bernie would be a disaster. I like Vox but I don’t like much that Matthew Yglesias writes: and it isn’t surprising that he wrote this article, but I would take what he wrote with a grain of salt. I think Bernie is planning to run again. But he is so wildly unpopular and has alienated such a large segment of the democratic base that they couldn’t make a worse choice. adaher has it right.
The Democrats need to have a candidate that needs to be able to do two things: firstly they need to get the votes. They need to beat Trump. After what happened last time nothing can be taken for granted.
But the next administration after Trump will have another job to do. Trump has taken a working federal government and is fundamentally breaking it. Government is a chaotic system full of complex relationships that rely on each other to keep functioning. Understaffing a department will have impact on something else. Under-staff all of them? Things get bad, and as time goes on things will get worse. Install people in charge of those departments whose job is to either hobble or do the complete opposite of the “mission statement” of those departments? We’ve taken a very bad situation, and turned it into a clusterfuck.
We are only six months in. We won’t see the direct results of the mess that Trump is creating until about four years from now. So the next administration won’t be and can’t be a “hopey changey” administration. It will be eight years of rebuilding the federal government.
So thats why I think that (if he is healthy and wants to run) Joe Biden needs to be on the ticket. He’s popular with the base, including those whom are alienated by Sanders. He was vice-president during arguably the most scandal-free administration ever. A Biden administration would be able to hit-the-ground running to start bringing order back to the chaos better than any other candidate IMHO. It wouldn’t be an exciting presidency. But in terms of the future of the United States of America it will be an extremely important one.
You can tell a lot about people by the people you “hang out with.” President Trump has surrounded himself by the worst people in the world, a bunch of deplorables who are slowly but surely dismantling everything that (IMHO) makes America great. The former President Obama called Joe Biden “his brother.” A Trump vs Biden presidential campaign would be defined by the company that each candidate keeps. I would hope that this would give Biden the edge. But after the last election, who the fuck knows?
As much as I enjoyed hearing that earworm again, I don’t really want to let it go. The Dems seem determined to learn absolutely nothing from 2016, so to preserve my own sanity during the TRUMP presidency I’ll continue to blame the Clintons & their enablers for running the party into the ground.

This is just untrue. Poll after poll shows that Sanders is the most popular politician in the US. Democrats especially love him.
I don’t particularly like the idea of a near-80 year-old being the party’s nominee… But let’s not pretend that he is some sort of political pariah.
(That’d be Clinton ;P)

…give me a fucking break. Chelsea is an adult, has written a book, and is promoting it. She also happens to have an opinion. None of that suggests she is going to run for president. She has declared she is not going to run for president. Your speculation that she is going to run for president is based simply on “not trusting anything any Clinton says ever” which is an objectively terrible way of determining whether or not someone is planning on doing something. Just stop it already. She isn’t going to run.
Chelsea Clinton is not running for President. End of story. You should be happy with that: why are you not?
If you want to “preserve your sanity” you should do that by not thinking bitter, angry and obsessive thoughts.
QFT
While I supported Biden last time and hoped he’d run, he’d be 78 on Inauguration Day 2021, only one year younger than Bernie. I’d say both are too old.
Trump isn’t too much younger. He’d be 74 next Inauguration, but he’s already too — something.
Pleeaase. By that standard most Democrats in this country have gone insane, considering their endless bitter, angry & obsessive thoughts about Trump. The conspiracy theories in particular are entertaining. Is the US a vassal state of Russia now? Maybe it was the vile Comey who stole the presidency from Clinton? Or was it the noble Comey, fired by Trump, who was being investigated for all manners of evil?
I was making jokes about a Chelsea run for the most part, sorry to offend your sacred cow.

Assuming he won the primary, in the general Bernie would bring out the millenials. Assuming he’s running against either Trump or Pence, he’d probably get enough of the remaining Democrats to win it. Hell, I know some Trump voters whose first choice was Bernie (strange but true) so he might even get their vote.
That said, like others, I have concerns about his age. Maybe the ideal would be to run him with a competent younger VP.
That’s cynical as hell but desperate times…
Then again, maybe running him as VP might be sufficient to bring out the millenials.
…define “popular.” Show me these polls.
Some Democrats love him. Some tolerate him. And some Democrats hate him: andwould not vote for the Democrats if he were the nominee.
But he is a political pariah with many democratic voters. You underestimate the level of animosity towards Bernie. Yes: he’s “popular” with some segments of the vote. But he is irrevocably unpopular with a significant demographic: and if the next election is as close as the last election then those margins are going to matter.
Bernie would have been more polarising than Clinton IMHO.
Here are the results of a recent poll. It’s interesting to see the huge popularity among AAs, which I was not expecting considering the narrative the Clinton camp created during the primaries.

…what the fuck are you talking about?
I’m not American, don’t care much for the Clintons, and Chelsea is most certainly not my “sacred cow.” You should stop making assumptions about me and just focus on what I have said. Clinton isn’t going to run: and if you believe that she is then you do so in defiance of all objective evidence. If your intent was to make a joke though here’s a hint for you in the future: jokes are supposed to be funny.
Simple projection. You people spent 8 years praying for Obama to be removed from office and it never happened. 8 years of inventing ‘scandals’ which never amounted to jack. Now you’re backing the most corrupt and incompetent President ever and projecting your own past behavior on us.
Honestly, I can’t take anything you say seriously if this is your position.
K. Well I voted for Obama twice, voted for Bernie in the primaries, & HRC in the general. So I dunno what ‘you people’ I’m a part of.

Considering how you rave about the Clintons and Democrats, I don’t believe that for a second. This isn’t a tactic that is going to get people on your side.
…you claimed “poll after poll.” This is a single poll. Have you seen the actual questions and answers?
Who created that graph? Whats the source? It appears to completely misrepresent the actual poll: it doesn’t show what you claim.
I don’t really care if you believe it or not. If you don’t want to believe there are people who held their noses and voted for Clinton to keep Trump out of the white house, that’s on you.
I’ll admit I have been disgusted with the Dem’s behavior over the past year, & living in a safe blue state I don’t see myself voting for another Democrat OR Republican any time soon. The party is practically dead anyway, & seems to exist only to whine about Trump’s various misdeeds at this point.

Is politifact more to your liking?

Do not appear to accuse other posters of lying. This is pretty close.

…you just cited the exact same poll. The. Exact. Same. Poll. I’ve linked to the actual poll. Something you have so far failed to do in two attempts.
You stated Bernie was the most “popular politician.” The poll question included political figures, including people like Stephen Bannon and Kellyanne Conway.
Would you like to try again?
