b) When you want deliberately to insult her by reducing her to her genitalia.
c) when appropriate
d) It’s a word, people generally know what it means, it serves a purpose, and I don’t think much of officious rules dictating, allowing, forbidding, etc. the use of words.
Rarely, but occasionally. Mostly if she’s acting like a complete cunt.
b.) if that is OK, under what circumstances?
If she cuts me off in traffic, then bitches to me about it, then cuts my head off, then pisses down my neck hole, then sues me for the loss of her piss, then I think it’s somewhat justified.
c.) and d.) already answered.
Having said that, I like the word. I will (almost) never call a person that, but I will refer to a certain part of female anatomy in that way. It’s sexy. “Show me your cunt, you sexy thang” is far different from “You’re a stupid cunt.” A woman deserving such scorn is usually not so warm and inviting.
I treat the c-word like the n-word: OK for others to say but strictly off-limits for me. I think it inflames a lot of women to the point where it’s not productive in any situation. Anyway I don’t care for gender-specific name calling. I just refer to deserving women as assholes, same as men.
a.) Yes
b.) When you want to express your extreme frustration or dislike for said person and no other word will do
c.) (Man) Yes, if it’s truly deserved
d.) Because it’s just a word. To be fair, I have no restrictions whatsoever for what other people decide to call me either, and I won’t get too mad from any word, name, or slur thrown my way.
This does depend somewhat on where you’re asking. Americans (me included) apparently find the word a lot more offensive than the British. I hear gay men use the word a lot, for some reason.
Personally, I like pseudotriton ruber ruber’s answer, but if I’m honest mine would be the same as twickster’s.
b.) In more extreme circumstances. I tend to affix “Stupid” before that term when I encounter some idiot woman driving really dangerously. Oh, and I’ve responded with that when my husband has told me about some amazingly stupid and obnoxious ruling by one of his supervisors.
c.) I’m a woman. Why would or should I (or someone else) “be okay” with being called it? It’s an insult, that’s why I sometimes use it.
d.) Again, it’s an insult. I’d list it as high up on the weapons-grade list of insults so if your target is around, you have to be ready for a fight, but I don’t use it in those circumstances because it is really vulgar.
A) To the extent that it’s okay to call a woman any name, yes.
B) Any circumstance in which you might call her any other name.
C) To the extent that I’m okay being called any name, yes.
D) Because I think the intent is still the same whether I’m being called a cunt or a bitch or whatever and I don’t find “cunt” any more offensive or disrespectful than what might be considered milder insults. That you’re sitting there calling me any name is enough for me to reconsider our continued involvement; what you’re calling me hardly matters.
c.) I’m a woman, and tend not to behave cuntily. If called this (whether deserved or not) I take it as any other type of name calling, which is I don’t really give a shit.
That reminds me of Louis CK’s origin story for the word nigger.
I occasionally use the word cunt, though I kind of hate that I ration it out, like ‘Only if someone really, really fucks me over and is a despicable human being. Then they can be compared to half the world’s genitals.’ For me, it’s all context. ‘Bitch’ and ‘dick’ make me laugh, but if the right/wrong person uses them, they can hurt someone for weeks.
Whatever circumstance I feel like. As an insult (properly) , or as I would with any insult if I’m just joking around (there isn’t as much stigma with the word in the UK). Usually when I’m exasperated, when some one is winding me up. Maybe something along the lines of ‘shush you silly cunt, and just pass me the fucking bottle opener!’ This has happened recently when my housemate was teasing me with a bottle opener, when I wanted it. Please note she usually converses with me in a similar manner.
c.) if you’re a woman, are you okay being called this? and if you’re a man, are you okay with calling her that?
(Man)
Yeah, no worries.
d.) If you’re a woman who is OK with it, why? And if you’re a man, why are you OK with saying it?
(Man)
Because it’s just a word. It has it’s uses and that’s all. There shouldn’t be any more stigma over using ‘cunt’ than there would be any other word used in that situation
I should probably point out that while I’m OK with using that word (cunt) in extreme circumstances, I don’t think I’ve ever actually done so. Ever. I also don’t call people pricks, motherfuckers, or cocksuckers. I also never tell anyone to shut up.
a.) is it ever OK to call a woman a cunt? Almost never
b.) if that is OK, under what circumstances? I can’t imagine when it would be, but am giving the never as an out just in case. (Thought of one - Lori Drew - I’d use that word for Lori Drew). I have been known to use the word to refer to “having a cunt” (namely in response to both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin’s handlers thinking I should vote for them because we both had cunts).
c.) if you’re a woman, are you okay being called this? and if you’re a man, are you okay with calling her that? No, anyone who called me that would be dropped from my acquaintances. At work, it would immediately result in a complaint to HR.
d.) If you’re a woman who is OK with it, why? And if you’re a man, why are you OK with saying it? N/A
