Cross-forum posting is understandably a bad idea. But what about cross-site posting? Is it bad form to post the same slightly technical (well, from my perspective) MS Access question both to GQ and to outside message boards (i.e. The World Access Forums)[sup]*[/sup]? I’d really hate to annoy a mod or jeopardize my posting privileges in a desperate quest for an answer. My apologies in advance if I have erred.

I don’t see how that would be a problem. Cross-posting between forums wastes space on the server. Posting the same question here that you post to other boards uses the same space on the server as posting a question here and no where else.
Of course, if you’re asking us and asking other people, you risk offending us because it sounds like maybe our answer isn’t good enough for you. So watch it, buster.

Seriously, I can’t see how they’d even know, much less care, unless you advertised the fact in the post itself. I see plenty of posts in GQ that begin win “I asked this on ****, too …”. It’s no skin off their nose if you ask it a hundred places, unless you flood the world so badly that repeated versions of the question by hundreds of people clog the works everywhere, like the stupid “-gry” riddle.
Of course, if you ask it simultaneously in enough places, the other places will start turning up as cites here, somebody might notice that you asked it multiple places, and you will be held up to public ridicule for making use of inferior venues …
I don’t THINK we’ve got an Official Policy on this one. As far as I’m concerned, I don’t mind. Heck, I wouldn’t even mind a reasonable link to the other places you’ve asked a question. Just remember the “Don’t Be A Jerk” rule.
However, this is all just my opinion. It’s subject to change if I’m notified that we have some sort of policy on it.
Just don’t get caught.
