I’m Weird Al Yankovic! Don’t tell anyone here.
Who’s Spartacus?

It’s only a whisper of a shred of mere anecdotal evidence your way, but I remember a doper claiming to be quite well known, to bolster some point they were making on the nature of celebrity. I don’t unfortunately remember the Doper’s name, and he was kinda scoffed away with ‘Yeah, rights’ and 'Who, then?'s
Hardly proof that Drew Carey walks among us, but… Hi Drew!

I’m not.

The only celebrity that I think there’s proof of having at some point logged onto the Dope was Weird Al Yankovic- no idea if he was ever a member, but he actually did refer to it at some point. No cite, but you can search up the thread where the details are given.
And it’s rumored that Angelina Jolie expressed interest in adopting one of the younger Dopers, but I can’t remember offhand if it was Clockwork and Candy or Diosa. In either case, there was an astrological problem that prevented it.

I can has adoption pleez?

I don’t think that question was particularly new when it turned up here. Other boards had been yakking about it. Also, the “correct answer” hardly requires any special skills or knowledge to get. If Drew has any idea at all about aeroplanes he could have came to that answer with a few moments thought.
Uh oh…here we go again…
I think Penn Gillette is one of the skeptoid wanks on this board, ya know, dem Randiites. Randii probably plays, too.
I also think there are definitely some writers from John Stewart’s Daily show that are amongst us.
Drew was a Marine, so you could winnow it down to a funny, libertarian, (ex) Marine on this board if such a Doper exists.
In Anthony Bourdain’s latest episode of No Reservations (Tuscany) he did a little sarcastic tirade and used the perjorative “Asshats”.
…Coincidence?
I’m hoping to be famous someday, does that count?

One of the character’s in “Reaper” called someone an asshat in the show I watched from last week - the term has fallen into common usage, I think, but Kevin Smith as a Doper isn’t a huge stretch. I also think Scott Adams is among us (but probably not a fungus).
Phil Plait the Bad Astronomer
Eve Golden
They’re not celebrity enough?

Indeed. In the online “roleplaying” game, Kingdom of Loathing, you can purchase an asshat to wear as a helmet when you’re out adventuring.
Libertarian, in fact. Pretty much said so in an interview on Penn Jillette’s radio show last year.
Hmm… so you’re DREWBERT, eh?
Darn you Friar Ted, I was going to mention Dr Phil Plait. I guess I can add that he has a wikipedia article:
Also, he’s listed on the IMDB as a science adviser for a few films.
And Ms Eve Golden is listed in wikipedia:
I never realized the SDMB was awash in celebrity greatness.
Who might be the next celebrity to pop up?
Clint Howard?
God I hope not

That term was made famous by That 70s Show, which started in 1998, long before the SDMB was well known.

Yep, that’s the one. I don’t remember it being the OP, and upon re-reading, I’m ashamed I brought it up.
