I found some shitty VHS rips in some long ago thread of rapidshare links, they have been sitting in the shit to watch pile forever.
I understand it is a kids show based on Star Wars, on the other hand so is The Clone Wars and I love that! I think I read some things from Droids were used in the prequels? I dunno, I’ve tried watching an episode or two with my son and just kinda found it meh aside from that fact hey they managed to find some brown humans in the SW galaxy?
Is this worth watching?
It was worth watching when there wasn’t any new Star Wars on the horizon, but since all the new stuff it doesn’t hold up very well.
The only thing in it cribbed for the Prequels is the term Boonta Eve (the Pod Race).
The Clone Wars is for kids?
“Droids” (and “Ewoks”) were done by Nelvana which means they’re certainly worth watching for the art, design, and animation.
I have no idea how well the stories hold up. If I recall, they weren’t terribly captivating, but they were better than anything that Hanna-Barbara was making at the time.
I was well past the cartoon-watching age when they debuted, but they (and Dr. Who) were the only interesting thing on on Sunday afternoons. Three tiny points of light in a wasteland of bowling, fishing, infomercials, and pro-wresting. That also made them quite watchable at the time.
And “Droids” gave birth to one of the most expensive collectible Star Wars figure of all time, Vlix.
This season it is even being broadcast on Saturday mornings apparently, at least in the USA.
Last season we had the arc with Admiral Ackbars people, the arc with Jedi Master Krell. We have had episode like Senate Spy which and the arc with the dead Obi Wan which show Anakins decent into darkness. There is no way that is meant for kids.
Remember when you were a kid, and the kind of weird stuff you watched? Well, modern kids are even more resilient these days.
