I sign in, give the proper password. It goes to the “Check if you are not a robot” page. It goes back to the sign in page. Rinse, repeat.

Also, just to make sure I am using the right password I had them mail me a 6 digit code to sign in. They did so, then I did so…and I got the message “Something went wrong, please try again later”.
Facebook might be stuck in a CAPTCHA loop. Here’s some info I found via Google:
What skywatcher said, but also try private browsing first. That should tell you whether it’s cookie/cache related without that big hit.
If you use Firefox, you can sort cookies by time of last use and thus easily find the likely culprits rather than doing all of them. I forget whether Chrome offers that.
